That sucks and/or blows.
Closest AHF Wellness Center looks like Long Beach or Upland.

If your income is low enough get on Medi-Cal.
The coverage there is actually better than nearly every PPO and it is paid for by the taxpayers.
I let my PPO lapse when business was tough and ended up on it. Had better coverage than Blue Shield PPO.

You can also apply for Medi-Cal at any time and it is effective immediately if you qualify. Income limit for a single individual (as shown on your taxes) is just over $22,000/year.

I didn’t know the limit but when I got hospitalized the rep at UCLA put me in contact with a third party that got me on Medi-Cal retroactively, giving me coverage for a 30k hospital stay when I foolishly let my PPO lapse.

This was posted by Apple in another blog. I'm going to check it out next week
"If you're in LA, AHF on Western Ave has a free walk-in clinic. Tuesday through Saturday and they are open late. They also offer Prep for free. I've never inquired about it though. I have insurance however, this is much easier and more convenient. You can go as often as you want. Results usually take 2-3 days. If you are a girl, like me, the process is much faster. I'm usually in and out in 15 minutes, even when it's busy. I've been getting tested here for as long as I can remember. Easy peasy."

I have an insurance broker. He's AMAZING. He's free. I send everyone to him! In my civi job I am self-employed and he works wonders for me. My insurance is through Blue Shield, Providence (which are great), co-pays usually $5, specialties a little more deductible $1400.
He works the numbers for me. Whatever overage I make I just plan to pay back at the end of the year in taxes. Its much better than going with a pricier plan with higher co-pays and deductibles. He has access to everything including Covered CA and Medi-Cal.
Let me know if you want his info.
Sorry this happened, it's so stressful.
Also some drs do sliding scale. I broke my ankle and my insurance was messed up at the time. My mechanic of all people sent me to a podiatrist in Burbank. He only charged $250 for my first visit and $250 for the followup after surgery. That was all. Just wanted to offer some options.
Hope it works out!

Thank you everyone...so much good information in here I will check it all out.
My medi-cal is the guy messed up right now actually lol I am low income enough to qualify but they pulled some weird thing on me recently and now I have to appeal. In the interim, they gave me the boot and until it rectifies I am on my own apparently. I am keeping myself bubble wrapped until then lol and having to figure this specific part out but I figure this is a good thing to know at any rate.
I have paid $500 dollars at a clinic before for a full panel, stupidly, and do not want to repeat that again. I knew there had to be better options. I really appreciate you all, this community is such a freaking life saver!
Like a protective older sister/brother I never had but always wanted
ALSO just so everyone knows (I heard from my dental office so maybe I am wrong, but I doubt it)
Medi-cal is going to take away all dental (only dental emergencies) for anyone over 21 in July so go get that work done!!!
I need a few things done waited like an idiot and that out of pocket will be in the few $1000s. FML.
It is so unfair we have to fight this hard to stay alive haha. Thanks again everyone!
