What is the Photos page?

Main Pictures Page

The main pictures page just shows you the last 20 pictures that have been uploaded by members of the community to their albums that are set to be publicly accessible.

If you click on any of the pictures, you will be shown the full sized image.

If you click on the handle of the member that uploaded the picture, you will be taken to their photo album that the picture is in.

If you are logged in, you will also see 2 additional links available, located in the upper left corner of the page. These links are shortcuts to your own album.

The first one is to "View Your Own Albums". When you look at your albums this way, you will see them more or less how someone else sees them.

The second link is to "Edit Your Albums". Click on it to be taken to your album management page.

Managing Your Photo Albums

Once you are on your album management page, you can:
  • Set your default profile picture.
  • Add, move, delete pictures.
  • Make new, rename, delete albums.
  • Set albums to be private, and set the access lists for private albums.
  • Get more space for your albums.

  • Set your default profile picture.
Your default profile picture (or avatar, as it is sometimes called) is the small picture that shows up under your name on Profile page. It also appears in many other places, such as under your name on your blog posts and comments, in a popup in other members inboxes when you send them a private message, in People search, etc.

Your default profile picture must be in your "Main" album. In your Main album, all of your pictures have a button under them that says "Make Default". Just click it, and you've done it. That's all it takes.

  • Add, move, delete pictures.
To add a picture, just click the big ol' "Add Picture to Album" button. Then fill out the form and click "Add to Album" button.

To move a picture from one album to another, you first need to have created a few other albums other than your premade "Main" album. See section below for information on how to do that. Once you have, select the radio button next to the album you want to move a picture to. Then check the checkbox under the picture you want to move. You can select several pictures at once to move. Now the "Move" button in the lower right corner of the album area will be enabled. Click it. Pictures moved. Keep in mind that moving your pictures from album to album does not affect anything you might have attached the pictures to. This is because the albums are just to help you organize your pictures, and they don't affect the url of the picture.

To delete a picture, just check the boxes beneath the pictures you want to delete, and click the "Delete" button in the lower right corner of your album area.

  • Make new, rename, delete albums.
Albums are just to help you keep your pictures organized. In the box down the left side of the screen labeled "Albums", click the "Options" link. That will open up another panel. Just fill it out appropriately and click the button label with the operation you want to perform.

For Rename and Delete, you must click the radio button next to the folder you want to operate on.

To Delete an album, you must first empty it by deleting the pictures in it, or moving them.

  • Set albums to be private, and set the access lists for private albums.
Sometimes you want to share a picture, but you do not want to share it with world.

You can do that here by making an album, and setting it to be private.

When an album is private, if somebody looks at your picture album, it will not be displayed.

However, if you share the picture, and somebody passes out the direct url to the picture, it is not protected.

To make an album private, click the link that says "Permissions". At the page you get taken to, there are 2 sections. The top section is labeled "Public Albums". All albums are public by default, so unless you've already done something here, all of your albums will be listed in this section. Just click the button called "Make Private" next to the album you want to make private.

Now the private album is no longer in the top section. It now appears in the bottom section, labeled "Private Albums". You can either make it public again by clicking the "Make Public" button under the album name. Or you can grant specific members access to your private album. Just enter their handles into the field and click "Grant Access". Now those members appear in the private album's access list. To take away their access to your super secret album, just check the box next to their name and then the "Remove Rights" button becomes enabled. Click it. Done.

  • Get more space for your albums.
Beneath your list of albums down the left side of your screen, you'll see that you are told how much space you have, how much you've used, and how much you have left.

If you are running out of space and want more, you can unlock space by using your FXPoints. Just click on the "Get More Space!" link and follow the instructions to get more.
