I really enjoyed watchin Davey Davey Lopes, a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers' record-setting infield of the 1970s and '80s and one of baseball's premier base stealers, died Wednesday. He was 80.
The Dodgers were informed of his death by his former wife, Lin Lopes. She told the team Lopes had Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases and died at a hospital in his hometown of East Providence, Rhode Island.
Lopes was a four-time All-Star during his 10 years with the Dodgers. He played in four World Series, winning the 1981 championship. He holds the franchise record for most games played at second base with 1,134. His 1,145 games batting leadoff are second in the organization's history to Maury Wills (1,279).
Garvey, Lopes, Russel, and C
Steve Garvey (1 , Davey Lopes (2 , Bill Russell (SS), and Ron Cey (3 formed the longest-running, most stable starting infield in Major League Baseball history, playing together for the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1973 to 1981

Ifunanya Nwangene died Ifunanya Nwangene died in hospital after being bitten in her Abuja home, raising questions about the availability of effective antivenoms
Snakebites kill one person every five minutes globally – up to 138,000 every year, and leave 400,000 more with permanent disabilities. Many cases and deaths are thought to go unrecorded, particularly where victims seek care from traditional healers rather than hospitals.
Nwangene said she was woken up at about 8.30am by a bite on her wrist from a grey snake. Two snakes were later found in her apartment, one, a medium-sized cobra, in her bedroom.
Nigeria has 29 species of snake, of which 41% are venomous. Shortages of antivenom due to manufacturing problems have been reported across Africa, along with quality concerns about some products.
The first hospital in Abuja that Nwangene went to, there was no antivenom available, according to social media posts by her brother.
She then went to the Federal medical centre (FMC) where she received treatment including polyvalent snake antivenom, but died after what that hospital has described as “severe neurotoxic complications from the snakebite” and a “sudden deterioration”.

Hunting can get tough. When you become the prey Asher Watkins, 52, was killed by a Cape buffalo during a hunting trip in the South African province of Limpopo on Sunday, Aug. 3
An American millionaire and big game hunter has died after being killed by a buffalo during a hunting trip to South Africa.
Texan ranch trader Asher Watkins, 52, was stalking a 1.3-ton Cape buffalo in Limpopo on Sunday, Aug. 3, when the animal charged at him at 35 mph and fatally struck him.
The trip, reportedly worth almost $10,000, was organized by Coenraad Vermaak Safaris, according to the Daily Mail. It’s unclear whether the buffalo was killed following Watkins' death or whether the animal was able to escape.

Thinking back The United States paid Mexico millions of dollars for land, specifically as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and the Gadsden Purchase. The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which ended the Mexican-American War in 1848, saw the U.S. acquire vast territories, including California, Nevada, Utah, and parts of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Wyoming, for $15 million. Later, in 1853, the Gadsden Purchase added another 29,670 square miles (76,845 square kilometers) of land, now southern Arizona and New Mexico, to the U.S. for $10 million.
I remember it like it was yesterday.
