What's the rest of the story?
Although the cops can impound for expired tags, it is rare to do so
Especially if you have paperwork showing you just bought it
You normally wouldn't even get a fine, just a fix it ticket that would get dismissed when you show it's current
What gives?

Besides the valid points brought up (cops usually don’t tow and impound a car just over expired tags) you haven’t said how much you are looking for. Guys should know that promises to repay under these circumstances rarely ever pan out so give if you want but good luck collecting. And it’s not because the girl doesn’t want to but because usually shit like this is the tip of the iceberg and there is a lot more underneath so while she wants to make good…she will absolutely freeze you out to take appointments that will pay. You already gave her money so she doesn’t get anything from repayment at that time.
Only a few I have helped actually have a pubic hair’s diameter of integrity.
