Between those options....ir was definitely Letterman.....but when I was a teenager, I stayed glued to Arsenio. That was a whole vibe in the early 90s.

For me.... letterman came on after Carson when it was on NBC until it moved to CBS.....as a kid though, I remember having to suffer through Mash or the 11 o'clock news before the late night shows started!

Eva, you're showing your age --- I mean, your youth. Carson was never in a competition with Letterman or Leno. He was the undisputed leader of late night during his 30-year run on The Tonight Show. Carson was the mentor to Letterman and Leno, and when Carson retired in 1992 there was an ugly competition between the two of them over who should be his successor. A really good film was made about this in 1995 called "The Late Shift".
