I’ll share a Memorial Day storyabout my father just for you PK and Angel. My dad fought in the Philippines during WWII. He prepared for the invasion of Japan . Later in fought in Korea where he was awarded the Bronze Star for valor. He then fought in Vietnam during the 68 Tet offensive. I was 16 old enough to understand what he was going through. He retired when he got home after 30 years in the military saying to my mom, Three wars for this country is enough.
I had 5 other brothers and sisters eventually during my lifetime. Well when I was about 6 my mom told my 12 year old brother to wake up dad for dinner ( he was napping on the couch) my brother tells my older sister to wake dad, quickly tells my older brother to wake dad who turns to me and says go wake dad I had a 4 year old sister and another 2 year old brother but I couldn’t turn to them. I actually had never woken him up before so I innocently go over to the couch touch his shoulder giving him a shake and saying, dad get up. I immediately hear this first low growl I’ll describe it as it turn into a very loud scream his eyes are wide open his arms outstretched with both hands reaching for my throat. I screamed and cried, my siblings laughed with my older brother saying that’s why we don’t wake him up, Both my mom and dad later sat me down and explained as much as they could to a terrified 6 about how was effects someone. Now it’s called PTSD
Back then I couldn’t wait for my younger sister to turn 6.
