Take 10 fwy east to Florida.
Take your time and have fun.
|
|
|
Make sure you have a AAA plus membership and let them plan your route. They used to do a trip ticker to plan your route which is basically just 10E but with things to see and places to stop.

How much time to you have?
Check out www.roadsideamerica.com - whatever route you take, some fun options along the way for a short break.
Travel I 40 from here to about the Texas panhandle, two highlights, the Cadillac ranch (cars stuck in the ground) and windslow AZ, as mentioned in the Eagles song.

You are an amazing Daughter!

Take the I-40 instead of the 10. It's a lot more scenic and a lot of "tourist trap" things to do. There's Williams, Grand Canyon, Flagstaff, Meteor Craterand other stops. Best part is you don't have to endure the neverending drive through Texas! You can visit the Cadillac park in Amarillo.
Safe travels!

Don't trust anyone whenever you make a pit stop for gas or eat!
Be careful and mindful when you park cause there are losers watching and ready to
take what doesn't belong to them.
Do not leave valuables in the car if you stay overnight at a motel/hotel!
Enjoy and have fun

And carry pepper spray, the gel version so it doesn’t get back on you from a change in wind direction.

Get the book Road Food by Jane and Michael Stern.
I'm sure there's an update and the places to eat are more or less timeless.
You have to eat, and it gives you a good reason to stop in places you might not...

I 2nd NOT taking the 10! The 10 will take you through San Antonio/Texas and Texas is really not a pretty state to say the least!

As iv mentioned in a previous post we have lil things that we have been doing to make memories that will last a lifetime while she’s fighting this cancer bs.
“Message in a bottle”. My mom absolutely LOVES seashell so we often visit beaches. One of our rituals it to assemble a bottle of ‘feel good’ items. Things like our fav Monopoly pieces, seashells, braided braclets that maybe a kid gave to us. Things that brought us smiles. We also put in a lucky $2 bill along with a note in hopes our bottle brings smiles whatever it goes - explaining that we are out making memories while she’s fighting cancer and ask if the person could email us to let us know how far the bottle has travelled to find them. Then we would find piers wait till dark and go out to the end of the pier, place a glow stick in the bottle and throw it into the oceans. Then we watch the tide carry the bottles away. We do this every time we go out on a trip.
So yes any beach, especially those with piers will get a visit. But suggestions on ones that are a bit more handicapped accessible. Mom’s mobility is really getting to be a struggle and Its a lil difficult to push a wheel chain on the sand. Lol
Ty all for the wise words of advice and recommendations!! You all are much appreciated!

My dude, driving LA to Florida without going through Texas is hella ambitious. Probably add at least two days to this kind of RV trip.

Finch. I’m actually trying to go through Texas to see a friend

Okay so take the 10 and if your friend is in Dallas/fort worth you can jump to the 20 which will take you right in to Dallas.
Or if they're in Austin you can jump to the 290 which will take you into dripping springs then Austin.
If in San Antonio the 10 will take you right in and will also take you to Houston.
If you want to go to the gulf coast you can take the 10 to the 37 in San Antonio to go to Corpus then meander your way to Houston on the 35 and catch the 10 again and take that through to FLA.
Hope this helps.

Oh forgot!
When in texas keep your head on a swivel!!! Texans CAN'T drive and drive FOR SHIT!!! They don't use their mirrors for lane changes, don't know what an on ramp is for, will cross all lanes to get to the off ramp 100' away etcetc! They just absolutely suck!

Tailgating in Texas is normal too. They'll pretty much climb into the truck of your car.
