I spent a couple months in Kaui after HS and before the Navy.
It is called the garden island because it is so green and beautiful.
The Fern Grotto is a great boat ride.
Hanalei Bay on the north shore, big surf in the winter, summer great snorkeling.
For summer surf: Pakala Beach, known locally as "Infinities" or "PK's," is a renowned, consistent reef break on Kauai's south-west shore, offering very long left-breaking waves, often riding for 300 to 500 meters. It is a premier spot for intermediate to advanced surfers, featuring powerful waves that work best with south swells

Kauai is my fav island. It is a very VERY quiet island. For breakfast, try the Lava Lava beach club on the eastern side. Your feet are in the sand 20 feet from the ocean. There’s also a Hawaiian chicken place nearby by that is a Triple G place. Changed names though. Very good. Don’t jump in the Queens Hole. Too risky.

Limahuli Park shows how native clans used to divide the land and use the resources.
For an interesting snorkeling experience go to the old harbor. As a deepish port it brings in the eagle rays and other pelagic life.

Appreciate the info already booked Fern Grotto. Planning on heading out to the other places mentioned.
Ever been to Kenji Burger? I’ve been told it’s a good eatery.
