Do you think people in the past had it easier or harder than we do now?

Just curious to know your thoughts.

As much as we romanticize the past. I think with the iPhone and technology we have at our fingertips, we do have it easier. I mean, Social media is a nightmare and can be a negative for sure but the ease of doing business remotely and communication is to our benefit.

I agree with both your points. The medicine, the scientific breakthrough, especially the technology.

The ability to have such wisdom at your fingertips. All of that has great advantage over the past.

I do think social media is changing our relationship patterns and ultimately we are swapping the physical aspects of life for the cerebral ones in a lot of respects and we have yet to see how that will play out evolutionarily, but overall I feel lucky to be alive in this day and age.

Solid points on the Heath care advantage. It's an interesting topic that can be debated for hours I am sure. One thing that cannot be debated is that, without todays advanced technology, I would not be able to log on here and View your profile and click on your pictures and see how incredibly HOT you are.

I think both past and present hold their own benefits.
Either way, here's to a better future!

the money argument is an interesting one, especially given the amount of millionaires we once had, which was few, to an abundance of them over a short span of time. Due in large part to the stock market and globalization of industry and what not but also a strange competition of humans to money hoard.

So not only is the pattern of money moving differently but the psychology of humankind is following.

Now as we start to go outside our own atmosphere in order to resource find/hoard... we will see how this goes.

It is certainly a very dynamic and exciting time to be alive albeit tiring and overstimulating as well lol.

But I agree with that last sentiment, to a better future.

It's a simple fact that took me a long time to understand. Print more money causes inflation. And we all have to pay the price.

That's why I say to the ladies, buy at least one or two Silver rounds .999 a month to preserve your future wealth. Any coin store has them.

It is true that we face unprecedented stresses, environmental, digital, and economic, but these are stresses of complexity, not fundamental survival.

We have conquered the terrifying randomness of early death and ignorance.

To be able to blog about this topic remotely with access to history is, in itself, a credit to our immense privilege.

Cheers to a better future! Best!

Every age has its problems to overcome.

Sure, we struggle even with electricity and powered gadgets.
Inventions appear every day, and supposedly these things ..
Cars, oil, electricity, mass transit, stoves, microwaves, elevators, ready to eat food, frozen, fresh, etc ..

I lived through the '60s, '70s, '80s,... to the 2020's.
It sure feels like the years in the past, felt easier...
A lot less complicated. Life moved at a slower pace.
We allowed more time to everything.

Technology has made things much easier for sure but it’s come with a price. It’s made new generations softer which has made basic life lessons harder for them. Not everything is instant gratification and sometimes you gotta work hard to achieve success.

When it comes to saying do we have it easier or harder than in the past, I think many people think of it as a financial question, and in that area, I think we had it much easier in the past.

The best times financially for American's as a whole was after WW2, as there was so much pent up demand for services, and many got wealthy during that period. Additionally, I think the cost of many things that all of us need or at least want have outpaced inflation. I bought my home in 1976 for $85k, and today it is worth close to two million. There is no way income has kept up with that type of asset appreciation. In 1969, I had a new corvette that cost less than $7,000 new, and look at what they cost today.

I think the generation that is just getting out of college or joining the workforce has a much more difficult time getting ahead than I did when I was their age.

So, in my view it is harder today for young people than it was in the past.

I think each generation has their own unique set of problems that defines them. Neither easier or more difficult but unique to them that other generations have a hard time grasping

The newer/newest generation in my opinion will have it a little tougher.
Most good paying jobs will require more knowledge.
Many Blue collar jobs will be
Taken by technology, computers and robots.
The cost of living , at least in California is much more difficult. Property values and property taxes make home buying for the young extremely expensive and difficult.
My daughter who is 22 thinks a high paying job is going to be about 80k a year.
I think you’ll need a minimum of 120-140k a year to live comfortably.
I hope I’m wrong.
