The Honest answer is:
More Money than Brains = Apple
More Brains than Money = Android

Apple if you can afford it.
Android if you're cheap or broke.

There is no best. Both collect your information and maybe used against you.
But you know marketing and research, ya right .

I’m not sure how much cheaper android devices are but you get what you pay for.
Apple has tremendous synergy between their various devices so the more Apple devices you own, the better. One example out of many is the ability to cut or copy information on one device and paste it on another.
Apple phones and other devices last longer than android devices partly because the software supports older devices for longer. This means that older devices receive software updates for seven years or more.
Software works better on Apple devices because it is made by the same company that makes the hardware.
Android is a highly fragmented system.
Apple is much better at quickly releasing security updates than Android.

My friend, who is a super-nerd, convinced me to buy an Android phone about 10 years ago. It was a shitty experience. It obviously worked as a phone, the same way as a shit car works as transportation. He now only uses Apple devices (what an asshole).
Of course I went back to Apple with an iPhone. I also have an iPad and a MacBook. All of the devices communicate with each other seamlessly. I can transfer files between the devices easily. I can text and respond to texts from all of my devices. I can take a picture on my iPhone and have it automatically download onto my MacBook's desktop.
Beyond that, Apple devices are rarely vulnerable to viruses and hacking. My friends who have computers with the Windows operating system are now getting hacked regularly.
Apple products also last a lot longer.
If you can't justify the price for an Apple device, buy used or refurbished.

When I’m at home my iPhone goes on the charger and my iPad is with me. I can make and receive phone calls on the iPad because it connects to my phone which is often in a different room. The same thing goes for texts. I get the benefits of a larger screen with the functionality of my iPhone.
All my notes, files, emails etc. live in the cloud and can be accessed on multiple devices. No setup required.
