The newer Apple AirPods have hearing aid capabilities, including being able to do a hearing test set the settings. They are around $200. This is a great option.
Get them at Costco or the Apple Store,
Costco has great regular hearing aids for about $1650, but the feedback I get is that people buy them and just don’t wear them all that often,
The nice thing about Costco is you can try and if you don’t like you can take them back.
Good luck with your mom.

Using air pods as a hearing aid substitute. You probably don't want that

Why is that? Elaborate. They are authorized by the FDA as an OTC hearing aid.
They are not a substitute for more sophisticated aids that you war all day every day if that is what you really need.
But tthey are a great option if you need a boost in some situations.

I believe AirPods have shorter battery life than typical hearing aids. Good hearing aids aren’t too noticeable, unlike AirPods. If those drawbacks aren’t dealbreakers then AirPods are probably fine.

My father got hearing aids in the mid eighties and never used them; every unit that he ever got, "did not work". There are a lot of options these days, I hope you find a solution, good luck.

I wear hearing aids all day every day. Hearing loss was over 60% so I have to wear the behind the ear ones. I suggest getting the rechargeable kind or you will be changing batteries every two or three days. My rechargeable ones last about 16-18 hrs if I don’t blue tooth my music to them too much. I e heard great things about the Costco ones

That’s really the core decision point. If she needs to wear them all day, every day, then go for the traditional hearing aids. Costco is the way to go. $1650 all in when I last looked.
The audiologist stressed that if you get traditional ones you need to wear them very day. You shouldn’t just pop them in and out because you’ll have trouble adjusting to them.
If she just needs help in some situations, like I do, then Air Pods are very good. And the noise canceling is really good by the way. I ditched my cans for the Air Pods when I fly.
And yes, agreed about battery life.

without going into too much detail.
State programs will cover all, if not a great portion of the cost of the hearing aid and appointments, even as a secondary insurance.

How did you hear about that?
Ok, just low hanging fruit. Sorry.

I just got the new Airpod Pro 3 and they are great! Actually has the same calibration test that is used for regular hearing aids. Probably good for minor hearing loss as it can adjust certain frequencies but I wouldn't advise them for profound hearing loss.

200-3000

If she is on Medicare, it is currently AEP (Annual Election Period) she could find a Medicare plan effective 1.1.26 that would help cover the cost. Copays for hearing aids on those plans are usually between $300-$700 per aid depending on the level of aid.
Find a good broker in her area that can help her out.

That’s better than 3000

I’ll kick in for air pods

@Nella, I am sorry to hear about your Mom. I don't know anything about the Costco hearing aids, but you may want to call around and see if anybody has a payment plan by chance.
If the your Mom has an actual prescription for hearing aids, I highly recommend NOT going the airpods route. Airpods are just like Drug store reading glasses.
My nephew was a hearing aid repair tech. The stuff they are doing now is FAR beyond my grandfathers old ones in the 80's that just amplified. Some can enhance or block particular frequencies in different ratios, correct some tinnitus, they are shaped to her ear so they should not cause any deformation in the different parts of the ear to cause any further possible damage, the microphones and processors are far better and more specialized to that duty. And Yes, the batteries are better.
Unfortunately like I tell all my clients. CHEAP is a dual meaning word.
I am attaching a couple links to resources that may help you.
I hope this helps and that your Mom gets better.
