Treatment Day 1 For the guys only!

Well I started my treatment for my prostate cancer today . Contrary to the belief of some of the elder hx members both male and female I publish my adventure here only for those coming of age members to be informed. There are Wikipedia Commodore 64 experts who have no personal real world experience with this disease but because of their level 4 or 5 then by automatic decree they are one. Im not looking for sympathy from anyone I get plenty from my family and close friends who genuinely care for me. My motive is strictly to inform and educate with what I AM going through.

Preparation for first day completely full bladder and completely empty bowel.. I know thanks for the visual.

Get to the CT scan room. CT tech. who is a rather attractive female tells me to drop my pants and shorts. I automatically start reaching for my wallet to pull out some Benjamins but then reality took over. On the slide table. They are mapping my prostate location .

Once the mapping is completed the CT tech now turns into a tattoo artist. She is going to tattoo permanently locator marks on my body to line up the radiation machine. One on each hip and below my belly button. I ask her if she can put a Mickey facing inward on one side, Minnie on the other facing inward and a Goofy or Pluto looking down. She chuckles and tells me that I can imagine them to be anything that I want. Damn I said to myself if I wasnt on Medicare I could get something nicely done. As it is I now have my first tattoo more like a prison tattoo but not 3 dots below an eye. The placing of the tattoo mark arove my junk actually stung pretty bad.

Now to the Lupron hormone shot. This is one time release shot that last 6 months and then takes 6 months to a year to fully recover from. Why you ask? Prostate cancer and actually Breast cancer feed off of testosterone (yes females do have testosterone) and Lupron removes testosterone and inhibits its production.

My main concern is that since I got the shot in my hip I have an almost overwhelming urge to strip down naked and reenact the scene from the movie Silence of the Lambs where the serial killer Buffalo Bill, is posing naked with his junk hidden between his legs trying to look like a female in a full length mirror

Oh well if I have any interesting tidbits to share I shall. Back to my knitting and Hallmark channel

I'm glad you still have your sense of humor, SmartK9. I had the same biopsy as you earlier this year & felt nothing at all. Sorry to hear how painful it was for you. The results came back negative but my PSA numbers kept rising so I'll do my annual check-up this month & see if it's become worse.

Dan Fogelberg noted on his website that like most men, he failed to get an annual physical (probably thought of the doctor's finger up the you-know-what that keeps many of us away?) but that if he'd detected his prostate cancer earlier, it would've been treatable. Instead, he died from it & we lost a great artist & songwriter.

Dude, thanks for sharing your experience.
Now, regarding the Buffalo Bill comment, does that mean you have a libido problem??

The shot they gave me eliminates the testosterone in your system and inhibits the production of new testosterone. So yes I will Prostate cancer and as indicated some breasts cancers feed on testosterone. So I make a joke of learning knitting and watching hallmark channel but the truth is I will be “menopausal” (please don’t punish me if you are offended by my description) complete with hot flashes , night sweats, moody, emotional, crying at the slightest thing(wow some of the providers I’ve seen may already think I’ve been on that stuff for a while)

It’s a one time shot that last 6 months. Your testosterone will start to come back after 6 months but I’ve already been told by my doctor that it may not return to normal and I’ll have to take testosterone meds.
