Hilton is mostly the same. You can buy as many as you want, but can't pay for rooms with them. Weird companies, with money tricks.

that blows - if shell wont honor or recognize them maybe do some google fu to see if you're able to convert it into cash or cryptocurrency (more of a hassle but can still deposited minus the fees when you transfer). by cash i mean those sites that buy gift cards. if i this happened to me id be so annoyed if a company wasn't taking them. such false advertisement.

Now that you mention it, I recall that my local Shell had a sign out saying they weren't accepting Shell gift cards too.

Maybe the simple route would be best. Meaning, share your experience with your grantor explaining that as much as you appreciate the gift could he simply exchange it for cash. Problem solved

Some gift card law
California Civil Code § 1749.5( (1) states that gift certificates sold after January 1, 1997, are redeemable for cash equal to their face value or can be replaced with a new gift certificate at no cost to the purchaser or holder.

I know losing a couple dollars may not be worth it but to avoid forgetting you have might be a good option.

This reminds me of a fundraiser where I bid on someth8ng that included a gift card for a really nice independent restaurant. My SO and I were waiting for a nice occasion to go, but the place went out of business 8 months later. I think it was like $250 credit that just went 'poof'.

I went to 5 different shells and they wouldn't take the gift card .
The weird part is that none of them could tell me why. They would just say "sorry try another shell" or that their machine wasn't working at the moment, but nothing about a company issue
Needless to say I have $150 worth of shell gift cards that I can't use as well lol
The shell in Corona worked a few days ago. But I'm not driving out there just to get gas haha

Alice try paying for gas inside vs at the pump. Sometimes the cars do not work at the pump. As the pump may not know how much is on the card. You go inside and tell them how much it should work.

yeah i went inside all 4 times
one of the cashiers was nice enough to chat with me about it she said a couples months/weeks ago people were swiping cards that didn't look like gift cards but they rang up as such
probably why they turned it all off and don't want to talk about it

I'm currently at the shell in mission Viejo and my gift card worked
I went up to the pump, slid it in the card slot at the pump, and it was approved. Didn't need to go to the cashier

so the cards are no longer working. at first they would work at the pump but now I am having trouble using them anywhere. I have like 6 of them too lol
Called shell and they were no help. I asked if something was globally wrong with the cards as I and a few friends have not been able to use them and the lady literally said "maybe, maybe not... could be but it depends".. LOL huh?!?!?!!!!!
anyways. She said to go to ShellGCcustomercare.com and file a claim with the card number and info then go from there.
because I have 6 cards I hope that they dont think that I'm running a scam lol... The electronic gift cards work so maybe they're trying to get rid of the tangible ones? A lot of scammers have been tampering with cards lately.

We don't take gift cards love, they're given as gifts lol
I have friends who will randomly gift me gas cards because I drive a lot . It was mentioned above that they should not be used as a form of compensation

so the update on that is
they're rolling out a new kind of gift card and deactivating all the old ones because people were hacking
should all be sorted out soon
|

If a guy wants to give gas as a gift I recommend bringing the lady a 5 gallon can of gas. No gifts cards to deal with, no paper trail and just a little bit splashed on your clothes does wonders to mask the scent of perfume for when you get back home. Or maybe it would be better to just give her a car with a full tank and she can chose what she wants to do with it.
