It's only a problem if it crimps, eliminates or dissipates other priorities, especially subconscious priorities that one may not consciously think much about. (Just answering for a friend with experience....)
In any case, there are ways to evaluate priorities and explore thought exercises that might help some individuals.... have your friend hit me up offline if interested and will get him/her further "food for thought."
It's a very interesting topic on several levels.

My 3rd oldest plays poker. He studies the game and reads and understands the odds. He practices online also to get better. He makes a lot more than he loses. His job pays him a lot more, but if he was losing money then he probably would not play. He has done well in tournaments, including the World Series of Poker in Vegas plus some of the smaller ones before the main tournament.
So he is gambling, but because he knows the odds he wins a lot more than he loses. Even when he wins he thinks about that hand and how he could have played it differently. Is that gambling?

Remove temptation. Which may require moving from Vegas and not living anywhere near a Casio.
Most have to hit rock bottom before they finally make the decision to stop the behavior on any addiction.
Good Luck.

hi,
i agree with the living far from casinos. the temptation would be too great if you had access to it every day.
every game is in favor of the casino.. yes you may have a lucky night, but most times its like what did i go.
i like to play craps.. stick with a strategy, but no matter how good a strategy is.. its still all luck in the end..
Good luck haha

If gambling trumps other priorities in your life, and you lose then you have a problem.
|
|
|
When it interferes with your goals.
Then it is a problem.
|
|
|
If your 'friend' is asking 'when is it a problem' the answer is NOW.
There are no set rules for when something goes from a hobby to addiction.
But friends of mine that are 'friends of Bill W', say that they quit - not when they hit rock bottom but when they believed they were going down that road. They believed that if they didn't quit it would lead them to ruin, so they sought help.

Gamblers with addiction **
|
|
|
Every morning when I wake up, it's a gamble.
|
|
|
You can be addicted to poker, love and know the game, and spend way more on it than is probably comfortable, and yet, not do any other gambling. I call it poker addiction, .... and I've seen it plenty of times. I can be of varying degrees too, but it's still an addiction. Balancing your budget to accom9datevyour losses in gambling us a problem.
|
|
|
If you are losing money, it's a problem.
|
|

Gambling is always a problem. It takes the donations away from fun things like hx.
|
|
|
TBH it's a problem as soon as you think it might be and recognizing that something is off. That will be different for everyone, but generally personal relationships are the most affected and that includes being honest and looking at the situation with a perspective of internal reflection that will bring possibly painful or hidden items to the front.
But rationalization and minimizing the effects will take over. Then it's a real problem.

Milli straight put me in my place. She's a tough one alright.

Play what u can lose
And
Keep what you can win
Set a time limit!
Buy coin base stock lol
Or
do fun sport bets
U can entertain yourself
Get drink vouchers
Hang out in the sports book
Bet like a parlay or whatever
Meet n greet ppl so it's more social as well.
I'm a professional gambler on paper.
So I know bout wins n loses.

Don't listen to these pussies, Let It Fuckin Ride!
The rush of hitting a morning three teamer on an NFL Sunday is impossible to replicate. A sports book has more energy flowing through it during March Madness than you can comprehend. A hot Craps table, a Royal, a 36-1 stack on roulette, so many options to pump the endorphins and feel alive.

Yeah bet it all on the hard 8 one roll

Thanx for the mainly words if wisdom everyone 💯❤️.. I’ll be sure to pass it on
Gina- they lure ya in with not just free drinks but plenty of comped nights- they’re fkn genius lol
Yeah and plus I’d say… it’s harder than you think not to wna go all in sometimes so maybe leaving your atm/credit cards home and/or not being by yourself is quote helpful…than again, who follows the rules anyways reallyyy lol😘🍀
|
|
|
Btw… HX isn’t happenin much in Vegas, really… and wondering, is there still meet & greet events and if so? Make one happen in Vegas soon, will ya? Haha🥳

Save your money and play the slot machines.
Trying to win money at a casino is a complete waste.
Have you come out rich playing the cards in Vegas Or anywhere else?

ok NEXT LEVEL, MOST WANTED said it right buy COINBASE stock, COINBASE is going to custody
institutional money for LARRY FINK, and when the securities and exchange commission approves the

buy bitcoin, buy Solana, but most of all buy CHAIN LINK, and be ready for SHOCK VALUE

I suggest a futures bet on the LA Rams at this point in the '26 playoffs, then take a break entirely until March Madness.....
|

When I quit one day I'll let you know how I did it.

I am from LV. To date, I personally have gambled probably 100k if not more. The problem? I gambled all that money, won back maybe 25k of it. And have nothing to show for it. If instead of after a shift I'd put 100 bucks into a machine to 'unwind' I'd invested that money, I'd probably be a millionaire. I have absolutely nothing to show for it. Lol.

Last 6 days in wagering I'm 16 wins and 3 losses in sports. So sometimes you get on a good run.
I love seeing the face of the sports book director as I'm leaving with my cash
Where I get in trouble is on the tables.. they go super fast, and if you get on a bad run it could wipe you out .
And again glad I don't live in Vegas . Temptation would be too much to be a degen

99% of gamblers quit right before winning it big
|
|
|
the way i look at it is when a man is sucking dick to gamble then you can call it an addiction/problem lol
same with “sex addiction”, when a straight man says he has an addiction but hasn’t had sex with another man than he doesnt have an sex addiction lol

As said before, if it displaces other priorities, and I'm not just talking about food/shelter, but future investments
I've got a buddy I'll meet there from time to time, he's got the emotional detachment to money, I don't possess
He brings 5 figures to gamble with, and plays blackjack by the book, he knows he will break even (at best), but he plays palazzo high limit for the comps - his entertainment, I'll just take the free drinks I'll mooch.
Point is he can afford it and doesn't take $ from his family or retirement investments

A few fridays ago, drove up in a rental car.. get there at 345pm ..place my wagers at circa. 4 wagers placed, 3 win.. i get my money and leave at 930, back to LA at 2 am..
im probably crazy for driving 9 hours and only staying less than 6. I did have a room comped but I had to work the next day in the afternoon.
My mindset if i stay for a longer trip.. Im always looking to hit it big.. but sometimes during the trip, its more of just staying even lol.
And yes the comps are good.. Circa knows how to take care of you.. the rooms are nice, food is good. I always ask for a comp now for parking.. it still bugs me how they can even charge, but guess they got to pay for that parking structure.

I think it's not a problem once you're at a point when your retirements taken care of. To be truly financially secure you need money in investments that earn you money regardless of inflation. So investments in things that are more inflation proof. Now if you find gambling fun, but are not addicted to it, treat it like any disposable income after investments. At that point definitely not a problem.
