My mother is Rh-, and after having my brother who was Rh+, there was a significant risk from a primed immune system to harm a second fetus (developed later) with Rh+ blood type. Luckily, the technology of delivering a serum containing anti-Rh+ antibodies was developed to prevent the formation of Rh+ antibodies in my mother’s bloodstream, so there was no chance of me, being Rh+, being killed in the womb via transfer of Rh+ antibodies to me via the placenta.
