Good credit

Good credit is not hard to achieve.

I’m not a financial/credit advisor, but u can raise your credit faster than you think.

For newbies:
Get a secured credit card (the kind w a deposit) if u need to and simply just pay off the balance every month. In a few months you will see your score go up.

Veterans
Bring down the balances of existing cards just by planning. Pay weekly if needed.

U never know when u need the cushion to borrow. Be wise and only use cards for emergency and to build credit. No need to show off and buy unnecessary crap.

If u have a high credit, leave it that way or use only 25% of it.

Correct about paying extra for little dumb things.

Credit cards should only be for emergencies that can be paid off in a few days.

You can also get your free credit reports from the big 3 agencies and look for false info or for things old enough they should have been removed. If you find errors, or overdue removals, contact the agencies and request they take action. Keep copies of correspondence. If you talk on the phone, always note date, time, number, and name of person you spoke with.

If you have a high enough debt-to-income ratio to get a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, then pay a lawyer and get the Chapter 7 and get rid of the debts altogether. Don't get suckered into doing a Chapter 13 bankruptcy partial-pay plan. The Chapter 13 will hurt your credit just as badly as the Chapter 7, and you still have to make payments for years while the debt is still on your record as not discharged. Anybody tells you otherwise, don't believe it.

Beware of collection agencies that got your debt from the original creditor. They won't bother to go to court and get a judgement against you for smaller debts, and that means they can't put a garnishment on you or a lien against anything you owe. But IF YOU PAY them some money, that gives a REBIRTH to the debt. You just gave them more rights against you. If you are going to pay the debt, pay the ORIGINAL creditor and get them to take it back from collections.

A long time ago, when I was younger, I had some bad money management and had poor credit. I bought one of those Credit Repair for Dummies type books and I really learned a lot from it. I did what it said, and everything happened just the way the authors said it would. Some of the best money I ever spent was the money for that book.
