The Odyssey

Anyone catch The Odyssey this opening weekend? I was surprised to find an IMAX 70mm showing on opening day for 7 am at the Regal LA Live, that still had decent tickets available two days prior. I was able to get a seat in the front row of the balcony.

That IMAX theater must be relatively new because I don't remember it being available when Oppenheimer came out. I was able to see Oppenheimer in IMAX 70mm at the Chinese Theater. I guess you can call me a Christopher Nolan fanboy or a film format nerd. But not dedicated enough to buy a ticket one year in advance! But now I do realize that you have to do that for the IMAX at Universal CityWalk because it is virtually sold out for weeks!

Anyways, go see The Odyssey which ever way you can because it was awesome!

Fucking no way !!!

It was the worst movie ever !!!

I still can't believe that Matt Damon took that role ???

Wtf was that Goon Monster with the one eye eating people ???

And those huge Tin Man Soldiers on that island ???

It was so unrealistic, and weird and a story line that was completely unable for anyone with a reasonable mind to follow, it just sucked !!!

I'm with Edmond, that movie was so long (3 hours) and it wasn't good at all.

Thank goodness that my theater serves alcohol.

The last hour was the best part of the movie. It was WAY to slow and felt like a soap opera.

I dug it. But you have to be a fan or have some background on Greek mythology and Homer to get all the nuances. Saw it in D-BOX, that was cool, amazing sounds and the lux recliners rocking and rolling with motion - that added a cool experience to it all.

Gooman =Cyclops
Robots were giants of course

Watched TROY again next day, it follows along with Odessey with Odysseus and Agamemnon storming Troy, but focuses more on Achilles and Hector (as top warriors who weren't represented in Odessey)

If you know the story already its pretty cool.

I lost all interest when that Witch turned all of the men into pigs.

That was the just bizarre, and we walked out after that.

I watched the trailer & there's no reason for me to see this. Doesn't even tell me what Damon's quest is in the 1st place. A lot of dry, brown looking shots. For 3 hours?! BOORINGGG!

Shocked it did so well. Christopher Nolan continues to do no wrong at the box office! (Oppenheimer, Dark Knight trilogy, etc.)

When I saw that the Greek soldiers were wearing Roman outfits I was like, what the fuck. When I looked into it, the director felt that Roman gear looked cooler!

I would like to watch it but for three hours? Plus the 30-35 minutes of unnecessary trailers on top of it…. I’ll wait for when it comes out on Amazon.

I like going to Irvine Spectrum Imax for the late showing and sitting back row center with just a few people in the theater. I had the whole room to myself back in 2018 for Apollo 11. The last time I went was for Becoming Led Zeppelin (and one of our very lovely HX girls kindly went with me).

I'm definitely going to Imax for Nolan's The Odyssey. I thought the hype might have been a lot of Christopher Nolan ass-kissing, but now it has a 98% rating on RT and excellent critics like David Ehrlich (IndieWire), Clarisse Loughrey (The Independent), Mike Ryan (The Hard Pass), John Nugent (Empire), and G. Allen Johnson (San Francisco Chronicle) are gushing (meh, Johnson had some reservations) about it and together make a convincing case for paying extra for the Imax ticket.

BTW, the book, in my opinion, is one I can re-read and become totally enthralled and not want to put it down even after having read it a number of times in the past.

The Irvine Spectrum IMAX is the best! I saw Project Hail Mary there and it was beautiful! I also saw Dunkirk there as well.

BTW, there is a version of The Odyssey with Homer Simpson in it. Homer was Odysseus and Moe, Lenny, Carl, Apu, Frink, and Barney were his crew.

Revoking movie selection privileges from my lady for the rest of the year after that selection.

Just horrible, a real lay back and catch a nap kind of movie. Even my lady regretted going to the movies that night.
