California issues 11 THOUSAND Speeding tickets in ONE DAY
May 11 2026 07:22AM more by SmartK9
Tags: Inland Empire , Current Events (All tags)

Just saw this on Yahoo news, which I actually don’t trust, but that being said this follows the blog LITTLEMISSALICE authored some time ago. During this blitz 200 drivers were cited for going over 100 MPH and based on the reading DMV can immediately suspend your drivers license before you have your day in court. The article further stated the CHP were writing speeding tickets every 8 minutes throughout the entire state!

I wonder if the State offered the officers a prize for who wrote the most?

One thing the CHP officers didn’t have time to do was ask if anybody in the vehicle was on probation or parole.

This BLOG is not LEGAL ADVICE!

I am NOT an ATTORNEY, nor a K9 retired officer with cancer, but I could be a

NON ATTORNEY SPOKESPERSON!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

good morning mister

what's funny to ME is how often they don't bother, at least where i live
it comes off like that 1 day and 11k tickets was posturing

as long as there is someone faster than you around, you're going to be fine

You are right hiding in the middle of a speeding pack generally keeps you safe as long as someone is taking the lead however to write that many tickets in one day officers are called in on their days off, overtime is paid etc. Normally CHP officers are assigned certain sections of the freeway that they are responsible for. They are spread pretty thin, unless of course, they are doing a blitz enforcement day. Then officers are double/tripled and even quadruple up especially in high speed areas . Plus CHP aircraft will use LiDAR radar to document your speed and radio up ahead to awaiting vehicles to stop you.

Keeping your speed reasonable within the traffic around you, Alice you know some idiot is going to race past you drawing all the attention upon them. As I say when they pass me , (usually flipping me off) thank you for taking one for the team

avg speed on the freeway is around 80. that's technically above the speed limit. they should enforce the law to raise money for the city or just go autobahn

Per CHP, this event was scheduled:
The California Highway Patrol will conduct a 24-hour Maximum Enforcement Period (MEP) focused on speeding to help reduce serious and fatal crashes across California. The MEP begins at 6 a.m. on April 28 and ends at 5:59 a.m. on April 29.
For frame of reference, In 2025, the California Highway Patrol issued over 491,000 citations for speed-related violations which works out to 1,345 speeding tickets per day on average.

So this MEP resulted in about 10 times more tickets that day.

Second link below notes:
CHP officers issued more than 11,767 speeding citations between 6 a.m. on April 28 and 5:59 a.m. on April 29. Over 200 of these tickets were issued to drivers who were traveling more than 100 miles per hour. All told, CHP officers issued 19,564 citations and 2807 warnings statewide
And George Carlin's ghost noted that
  1. Everyone driving slower than you is an asshole
  2. Everyone driving faster than you is a maniac
  3. Everyone matching your speed is an idiot

An old riding buddy of mine was a CHP officer. He told me 3 things I still live by.

1: Drive faster than the slowest and slower than the fastest.
2: Do not go over 80Mph, that is when the ticket goes from traffic infraction to misdemeanor criminal.
3: The basic golden rule, Don't Stick Out! I did not put an aftermarket exhaust on my current bike for this very reason.

Unfortunately, so many people drive like utter dog shit on the freeways. I mean, are you gonna get there five minutes faster? Big fucking deal.

Supposedly cops in the US have no quotas. DARE officer even confirmed this. But other countries they do. Near the end of the month they'll have sting operations. Drivers would notify other drivers by flicking the headlights or give signs. Seen this in Mexico and Vietnam. Instead of taxing gas they should have quotas

Speed limits are set for the lowest common denominator. If we are not of that sex, race, or age we should be able to drive faster!

Automated photo enforcement systems in California have clearly affected the number of traffic citations issued, especially in cities that recently deployed speed cameras and red-light cameras.

They may not have quotas as a sheer # written.

BUT, police are performance reviewed on many things such as arrests and tickets issued.

A cop that isn't writing tickets will be viewed by management as not enforcing the law and won't get a good review

At least that's my understanding.

I can confirm that what Remo mentioned is true. Issuing tickets is not based on a quota, but rather on performance and worth.

The 3 things that Depth mentioned are perfect rules to live by. It's the perfect way to avoid speeding tickets. I follow the same rules myself, and so far it's worked - knock on wood!

I like to add, if you're ever pulled over;
1) Make sure to pull out your papers and place them somewhere visible before the LEO approaches you.
2) As the LEO approaches you, make sure to have both hands on the steering wheel, and don't act like an ASSHOLE.
3) Never, never answer the question "Do you know why I pulled you over?" Once you give an answer, you pretty much admit guilt. Just say you don't understand what happened and have the LEO explain what happened. Do not defend yourself on the road; save that shit for court.
