L’Opera
Michaels
Nicos
All three are in Long Beach, excellent restaurants

Do "high end" and "Alfredo" go together?

Rumari's - Laguna Beach
Capone's - Huntington Beach

High end Italian restaurants
Now that is funny.
McDonald's have better food than the Italianos.

I've got to second that L’Opera recommendation. Some of the best I've ever had.

Antonello near south coast plaza.

Notsofast I think it can be if it's done the traditional way just parm and butter no cream like how many chain restaurants make it.

Molo
Lido isle

Not really high end, but Vittorios in HB is good
L’Opera is a good one!
L’Opera is fantastic!
I also really enjoy La Parolaccia Osteria, one of my personal favorites! It's not super fancy. It is really cozy and has an awesome vibe...and it is delicious!
Has anyone tried Due Fiori yet? another great spot in LB

High end restaurant == waste of money.
Most OC Italian is mid at best.
how is it a waste of money??
I could see an over-hyped restaurant as a waste.
But when a chef takes pride in their well executed craft and the staff works hard on creating an amazing atmosphere and delivering top notch service.. that makes for an amazing experience.
Fine dining or supporting smaller restaurants is such a vibe.
Maybe you just haven't had the right experience.

I try to avoid pasta whenever I can for my health… and my waistline.
Veal parmesana
Eggplant parmesana
Chicken cacciatore.
Osso buco
Cacciucco
Saltimbocca
Who needs pasta?
Not me.
I’m also going largely vegetarian for my health so chicken and veal are out. Fish is still part of my diet.
This has helped me reduce my cholesterol without statins.

One or more of the following preventable factors is present in 99% of the people who suffer heart attacks:
High blood pressure
High cholesterol
High blood sugar
A history of tobacco use
The vast majority of people who have heart attacks have two of these factors and high blood pressure is the most common one.
Through diet and exercise I have seen great improvement in my cholesterol and blood sugar. The other two haven’t been an issue for me.

Dahlia, it's a waste of money because they grossly over charge. In my opinion there is no such thing as a 50 dollar steak let alone any other over priced bullshit.
I don’t think pasta is bad for your health, but I think pasta, with huge American portions and a sedentary lifestyle lived in our cars, is bad for your health.
I could be wrong but I think pasta is largely starchy refined white flour.
Not automatically a bad thing in my mind, just balance and moderation and staying active. But sounds like you have a diet you feel good about, which is what counts.
My doctor has me at about 80-90% vegetarian and I try to avoid or limit eating things that are white: bread, rice potatoes, sugar, salt, dairy, pasta, etc… whole grains are fine.

Interesting the topic
High end Italian restaurants
Don't eat pasta if it kills you.
Stay on topic
Does anyone stay on topic in RA.
It’s kind of a free for all.
Perhaps
Think of it as a conversation rather than an essay.
Conversations tend to drift from topic to topic.

I used to enjoy this place
Mulberry St. Ristorante in Fullerton
Maggianos by South Coast Plaza
Not necessarily upscale but prretty good food.

To me LA just has better Italian places so if you wanna make a trip up there…
High end classic Italian: Rao’s in Hollywood
Modern Italian: Any (former) Batali place like Eataly, Osteria Mozza.
Other great considerations are Capo and Bestia.
Also as a chain Uovo is killer.
Haven’t found anything in OC nearly as good.
But NYC absolutely clobbers LA for Italian.
Chicago has the classic wop food.
So does the Italian quarter in Boston, and Hell’s Kitchen in NYC
I miss The Old Spaghetti Factory in Hollywood, but I see there is one in Fullerton.
Domino’s
Try Manga Manga in Huntington beach. 40 years eating there never had a poor let alone bad meal there. They fill their Canolies when you order!
Olive Garden.
Vince’s in Rancho Cucamonga on Foothill blvd or in Pomona. Best spaghetti you’ll ever eat!!!

It’s been so long that my memory is kind of hazy but I believe Bucca Di Beppo is a pretty good chain of restaurants.

high end is Olive Garden?

i like the salad at olive garden...
about 35years ago... an olive garden used to be on the way home from work... would stop and get the meat sauce, bread sticks and salad... have the wife cook the pasta at home before i got there
pretty easy peasy dinner.
i would still go now, but the frigging lil offspring says they don't like it... so haven't eaten there in about 11 years.
i like the anti pasta salad at buca. ... but find their food to be a little flavorless in general... or better if its leftovers
yes, i know... not high end with lil ones at home... they like SPAG FACT ....
have friend trying to get me to go to place in HB... says its great. i need to go and report back
