Santa Ana is nice...a few of us are out here!
I lived in Vegas for a year when I was 19 and when I tell you a year later I RAN BACK.
Hyper transient towns running through deserts bring a strange kinda madness. Made me realize I am a SoCal girl true in true.
Welcome back, I hope your move goes well.

The weather is much more moderate in Lompoc than Vegas. You do have to put up with around 60 Sonic Booms a year thanks to Elon and Space X

The Lompoc obsession is weird. Not surprising, just weird.
I think it’s been over a decade since I’ve been to Vegas. It’s been two or three decades since I went for any reason other than work. The shows and some of the clubs can be nice but gambling is utterly boring and a waste of time IMHO.
I did read about how Vegas has gotten too expensive for much of the middle class and people are staying away. I guess it used to be more affordable and fun.

The Lompoc thing is a running joke that has been ongoing for 15 years now. Give or take a few.

You think it’s funny?

Been in CA long enough to see some Vegas boom and busts
It's a business, if hotels can get away with charging for parking where once it was free, they will do so
If they can charge a "resort fee" for having a pool and Internet although once that was unheard of, if they can charge it without loosing business they will
Right now, the pendulum has swung away from the resorts into the favor of the consumer
If vacancy rates are up, fees will go down
It's a simple equation

I go to Vegas all the time, as a gambler I still get great deals up and down the strip and I won't pay more than just resort fees for my rooms. That being said, there are still properties that are very expensive, like Wynn and Circa, which quoted me $1700 for a three night weekend stay (am I've played there pretty good).
You can tell that tourism is down, there is just less people out there on the strip and a lot of tables are vacant. Many dealers have been laid off as well as front desk staff which leads to giant lines to use kiosks to check in. Foreign visiting is way down for many reasons including political issues.
As always, if you want the straight poop on what's going on in town, ask a bartender or cab driver. On the good side, in room entertainment is getting cheaper!

Thanks for the replies. After doing my own research, I have decided to relocate to San Diego. It's a much nicer place, bigger town full of better quality people. Much better. I don't even like to say I'm from Vegas. When asked where I'm from I say "Peru". So I'm going back to Cali this Monday for sure. Can't wait to enjoy the beaches and my income increase. I'm about to wild out!

Vegas is an absolute joke these days. House has moved the odds in their favor steadily over the last 20 years. If you are anywhere near the strip you are getting fleeced.

I feel like people who go to Vegas love to brag about how much they won but you almost never hear how much they lost.
It’s even weirder when you think about how the odds are stacked in favor of the house.

I think the success of Vegas can be attributed to three things:
1. Convincing people they might be able to beat the house.
2. Convincing people it’s fun to lose their money.
3. Alcohol.
Think about it: where do they get the money to build those huge hotels and pay thousands of people to staff them?

I’m in Vegas now visiting my friend who retired out here. It’s definitely not what it use to be, crowd wise. The casinos are probably 30% full and the shops are a ghost town. He says it’s been like this all year. Not sure how all the single moms in the strip clubs are surviving out here.

The average Joe (LOL) doesn’t have money to burn in Vegas like he did thirty years ago.
It’s will get worse before it gets better.

Hi, I'm reading this blog at 4am from my bed here at circa . I got comped the 5 nights from Thursday until Tuesday.. I have noticed the tables not too busy.. Fremont Street is the same people walking, getting drunk, and listening to the music..
At night is where the ladies come out.. I get approached but the cost that's stated is high..
I'm like we are in the downtown area..
Oh well no fun until I come home..
But I'm having a great time.. weather is perfect.. 70s night and day

I moved out here to Vegas about a year ago. I have noticed that work has slowed down for many out here. The summers suck. The rest of the year it's ok. The strip has become very expensive. Local casinos is where it's at. There's no place like California though.
