Clean Air Act

The Trump administration with its climate change deniers are doing away with the Clean Air Act which was set in place in 1960s to combat air pollution. I was excited to purchase my first EV this year so that I could use the HOV lanes by myself when I could. However, the federal government is allowing it to expire on September 30, 2025. This is also a loss of revenue for the state of California. The cost to get decals for EVs and hybrid vehicles cost about $30 annually.

Eventually, we will all be wearing masks to go outside due to the increase of air pollution by coal producers and gas companies!

The Fed's subsidy of $7500 for new EV's is expiring on September 30, 2025. This has nothing to do with using HOV lanes in CA. The CAA is not expiring. The loss of CA revenue will be due to our federal tax dollars no longer subsidizing anyone buying a new EV in CA. The last coal-fired power plant in CA was the Argus Co-generation Plant, it closed in 2022. It supplied about 0.1% of electricity produced in CA.

HOV lanes are put into place to encourage people to carpool. Yes EVs reduce air emissions, but HOV are also designed to reduce the number of vehicles on the high traffic freeway sections of California. Putting more EV in that HOV slows those lanes and does not reduce the overall number of vehicles on the road, even if EV are cleaner. Of course, if we are really looking at carbon footprint...you all do understand the energy required to mine the minerals for the damn batteries in those vehicles. And the transportation costs to move the batteries to the vehicle for assembly (batteries are typically not produced close to the auto plant and are very heavy (high energy use for transport). So, EV are not quite as "Green" as everyone wants to think.

That’s so disappointing. We should be encouraging clean energy, not making it harder. Taking away the Clean Air Act and EV perks hurts everyone in the long run.

Will we be able to use Federal Catalytic Converters after that date, or will we still be overcharged for the one with the CARB number on it?

I see E-Scooters are all the rage.

When the WEF, among others, are trying to depopulate the planet, it doesn't matter.

See what I did there.

Especially when you can not get the Third world countries on board.

It’s been proven that electric vehicles are cleaner than gas or diesel vehicles over their total lifespan. It’s easier to clean up exhaust gases from a stationary electric power source source like a power plant than from a moving vehicle. Batteries can also be recycled.

Worldwide, less money is being spent on producing fossil fuels than just a few years ago. Major banks are cutting back their funding of fossil fuels.

The world is moving toward cleaner energy. The USA can cling to the past in the form of fossil fuels but that just means our foreign competitors like China will own the technology of the future in the form of renewable energy.
