it is a little harder for them
they do have a lot more control and freedom with your reservation when you go through their website, and sometimes loyalty points, late checkout, etc..
but they shouldn't make YOU feel bad about that ever, plenty of places don't

I’ve noticed they sometimes give the shittier rooms to you when you book on 3rd party sites. Usually lower levels or handicap rooms.

I notice I get better/good rates when I book through the travel application on my credit card (even if I'm not using points)
And then I will get there and usually get way better service than if I had booked through the site OR a 3rd party.
Omni let me check in early, like 12 PM early once without batting an eye.
Either way ole dude probably has an attitude with everybody. Good chance he has a master's degree in an oversaturated field and can't find a decent job or something. Mad as fuck he works there at all.
The market is shit right now. When I was waitressing one of my coworkers had two Bachelor's, another the same in Cyber Security, and another had her MSN.. The MSN girl wasn't finding entry level jobs that paid more than waiting fucking tables. Half the staff could have been educators and were slinging food instead.

That's not right, if you didn't give him any attitude. He's just being rude. I'd complain to the manager, or fill out one of those customer survey cards.

I work at a hotel and yes the front desk staff will assign the shittier rooms to third party bookings. In general if you book through a third party site the cost will be cheaper but the trade off has to do with cancellations and modifications. The front desk can do little to modify or cancel them, you would have to go through the third party. If you book directly through the hotel, its much easier to modify the reservation and often cancelling will come without a cancellation fee. My biggest tip is if you want a better room, slipped the front desk agent a 20, and 9 times out of 10 you'll get a better room.
