If you’re not a Native American I’m almost certain you are descended from immigrants.
|
|
|
I heard even the native Americans immigrated.
|
|
|
a few theories but for the most part its thought that the 1st north Americans came from Asia or Siberia over an extinct land bridge. So... yea, we are all immigrants of one sort or another.
Still, the reality game idea is just a tad tone deaf, but that's expected from this administration right.

in the meantime, it seems that the people coming through the border has slowed down a bit verse what was happening under o'biden
yep...that was HER idea
stop it
it was from DUCK DYNASTY producer who was pitching it. and she might have looked at it for 60seconds and thought it was cute. ... or? did they green light the show and it's happening?
its got lots of issues for sure... but not hunger games. no one is getting killed. it seems like its a show to learn about america more.... which there is nothing wrong with that. beats learning how to hate america
but the good thing about the hispanic voters... they do not align with the left as much as they do with the right
any GOOD things in the last 4 months happening? or all bad?
i bet you are really happy with all the stuff coming out on biden now... how the dude was not even capable of making dinner plans
|
|
|
Seems like it might be an interesting show
|
|
|
My original comment was more like;
This is how Hunger Games probably started, seemed entertaining and innocent enough but the desire for more drama and violence morphed it into something else.
Almost all universally considered bad ideas started out as innocent thoughts.
Personally, I think this whole idea is sick and demented!

Useless Daily Update!
Broads and beer
Wow. Ain't ya'll a class act calling women "broads." I think your stated profile age is totally fake, since the term "broad" is from the 1932 film "Guys and Dolls." Hey, why stop there? The most common slang terms for girls in the 1950s were "doll," "dame," and "chick."

From US Census:
New 2024 Population Estimates Show Nation’s Population Grew by About 1% to 340.1 Million Since 2023
"Natural increase has historically been the cornerstone of U.S. population growth. Yet, in recent years, its contribution has dwindled due to fewer births and more deaths. The aging of the population is fueled by the large number of Baby Boomers born between 1946 and 1964 entering high mortality ages.
There was a brief uptick in births from 2021 to 2022, but rates returned to their downward trend in 2023.
In contrast, net international migration’s influence on population trends has increased over the last few years. Since 2021, it accounted for the majority of the nation’s growth — departure from the last two decades, when natural increase was the main factor."
https://www.census.gov/library/stories/2024/12/population-estimates.html
It's really the tired poor huddle masses of immigrants that keep the US population from declining and going the way of Japan, Europe, and China.

idea didn't come from the administration
it certainly has many issues... like who would qualify to do the show... surely not someone that just crossed the border...
not quite sure how its demented... they are selling fast green cards for 5million dollars now. so the prize is certainly in demand.
what do you think the game is about? they have guns and have a fortnite type survival to win the thing?
from what i read (in one minute)... its more about learning about america and how much they know...

I am all for secure borders and legal-only immigration, but that does not mean I have a heart of stone.
You have to ask yourself; why would a married couple with a couple of small children pack up just what they can carry on their backs and head to the US while walking hundreds of miles over several weeks or months knowing that they will be assaulted and robbed along the way? What drives that kind of desperate motivation? Ever been on a hike that literally kicked your ass? Imagine doing that same hike EVERY DAY for a month!
I think that there is certainly some "I want a better future for my children" involved but I think the overriding thought is probably, "If we stay here we are going to die!" How can you not have compassion for anyone caught in that situation?
I guess empathy can be both a blessing and a curse.
I don't mind them coming here or being here as long as it is done the right way and they obey the law. (yeah, like we are all perfect law abiding citizens!). Maybe I should say as long as they obey the major laws.

"You have to ask yourself; why would a married couple with a couple of small children pack up just what they can carry on their backs and head to the US while walking hundreds of miles over several weeks or months knowing that they will be assaulted and robbed along the way?"
Maybe you should look at it less from an emotional virtue-signaling and more from a critical perspective. Who gave them this idea that they could just come into the country illegally in the first place? Who put up billboards in border cities in Tijuana and Mexicali telling the locals that they could come into our country and apply for all sorts of benefits and handouts? (Sí, esto pasó en 2013 y 2014. Entiendo español y trabajaba en México. Los vi con mis propios ojos. ¿Entiendes?)
Who allowed a situation where the border became so porous that it created an environment for cartel smugglers to beat, rape and murder people and stuff then in unventilated trailers to die in the desert? And to top it off, who was whining about "breaking up families" but released tens of thousands of children into the custody of people who were NEVER verified to be their legal guardians in the first place? These children were released with a promise to appear later for follow-up hearings but never did. WHERE ARE THEY NOW AND WHO ARE THEY REALLY WITH?
One other question, WHEN ARE SOME OF YOU DEMOCRATS GOING TO REALIZE THAT YOU'RE BEING PLAYED BY YOUR OWN PARTY? This complete immigration debacle where we just led people flood over the border has NOTHING to with "caring" or "compassion" for illegal aliens. It is primarily condoned by two groups. The first one are businesses who just want cheap labor, not just in agriculture but in food processing as well (slaughterhouses and food packing plants in the midwest were caught facilitating whole flights of illegal aliens from SAN and LAX to ORD in the late 1990s). The second is more insidious, Democrats have flooded the country with illegals while at the same time pushing their "everyone must be counted" mantra during the latest census. It's about APPORTIONMENT. Democrats lure illegals with free goodies to increase the population of a given area, resulting in an increase in congressional districts that vote Democrat. It's their way of increasing their power and trying to get a permanent Democrat majority in place. Tell me you haven't figured that out yet?

"I don't mind them coming here or being here as long as it is done the right way and they obey the law. (yeah, like we are all perfect law abiding citizens!). Maybe I should say as long as they obey the major laws."
They can obey ALL laws or go home. In my time in this planet I have traveled to 30 different countries, and each one of them had their own immigration laws. I also spent considerable time working in several countries (Japan, Australia, Mexico, UK, Sweden and Israel) and in each one of them I entered through legal ports of entry and was subject to the conditions of my entry visa. in addition, I made a point of at least gaining basic language proficiency in each non-English speaking country where I worked, out of respect for the locals. I even learned basic Swedish when in Sweden, even though everyone in that country speaks English as well. I respect other countries and play by the rules when I go there, I expect the same thing when people from other countries come here. What's so wrong with that?

empathy is great to have... we all have it.
i have it for the ones being trafficked, killed and the hundreds of hundreds lives being taken out in our country from the cartel/china peddled crap. .... what we need is for the people on the left and right.. that enabled it all, to start feeling it, by losing people they raised and loved... some very innocent and accidental. now we all have to carry around the antidot to the shit and that is still dangerous to the rescuers and iffy percentage to succeed
please don't come in and say that ... those signs were the first of them seeing the stuff
you know better than that
those days where you claimed to be on the right... they just keep getting further and further from reality.
pretty sure you would still prefer to have had that cackling chick to have won that election... continuing on with how things were going at the border and all the other stuff.
would have been fun to see her in the middle east

Tony, if you will review my post of 9:28a today and look at the first sentence, and the last sentence, you will see that we are in agreement, Everything in between those 2 sentences related to empathy, which seems to be severely lacking when it comes to this subject.
I won't deny that the Dem's may have lured immigrants here, for whatever reason. Politics is, and has always been a dirty game. But there is no border between 2 countries anywhere in the world that has such a disparity in standards of living as exist between the U.S. and Mexico. Migrants from Mexico and Central America were coming here long before the current perception of an immigration crisis became popular. But the facts are undeniable; we need immigration. We need cheap labor to perform the jobs that a large majority of Americans think are beneath them. Without immigration the country would begin the process of a slow death.
What I am definitely for is the sanctity of the Constitution and the right to habeas corpus, which gives the "right" of due process for everyone within the boundaries of the U.S. regardless of their citizenship, immigration status, criminal history, or even their instant criminal violations.
The creation of prisons in Guantanamo Bay was the perfect understanding of how that works. Terrorists were snatched up and went straight to GB for the sole purpose of avoiding due process, which was legally allowed because those terrorists never really entered the U.S. However, even in the most egregious circumstances those people were provided with counsel so at least a semblance of due process was displayed (albeit, between being waterboarded!). So how is an illegal immigrant less deserving of at least a modicum of due process than a terrorists who "aided and abetted" the 9/11 attack?
Let me restate: I am for secure borders and legally based immigration, as long as it is done right. What I am not for is the old "Kill them all and let God sort them out" attitude. We can be strong without being inhumane.

Who is going to pick your produce, wash dishes in your restaurants, clean rooms in your hotels, butcher livestock for your protein? If you think average Americans then you’re agreeing to triple the cost of each of those items. Similarly to eliminating imports from China so we can manufacture $3,000 cell phones in the good ole USA.

that could be RICH... what were you saying back when obama sent back three million people
we don't need to send back 20million.... we need to send back 1.5million that are the worst of the worst.
but there is a ALWAYS a fear of one or two getting getting sent to a prison they will never get out of and probably die in... where maybe they not supposed to be there.
maybe there is a greater good to expedite the expulsion of these gang members?

Funny how those scolding us about "immigration" just can't bring themselves to distinguish between LEGAL IMMIGRANTS and ILLEGAL ALIENS. There is NO shortage of people on this planet who want to come to this country. How come as Americans we are supposed to have no right to determine or own laws, set standards and determine who comes here?
For the misguided person who lectured me about "empathy", where's your empathy for my SO and family members who were genuine asylum seekers (escaping a communist government murdering people) yet still had to have sponsors to come here, had to prove that they would not become dependent on the taxpayers, and had to pass background checks and study for their citizenship tests? How fair is it if you have been waiting 5 or 10 years for your turn and several million people jump the line in front of you?
For those who whine and cry about how America is supposedly so "mean" and "racist" and "xenophobic", please tell me of one other country on this planet that just allows people to come here and collect benefits at taxpayer expense, even when they did not come here legally in the first place? And for those who came here under conditions of some form of visa, why do you defend such behavior as rioting and advocating for terrorist groups while on American soil? I had to get a work permit from Mexican immigration to be allowed to work for an extended time there, and there were a number of conditions I had to acknowledge and agree to such conditions as Article XXXIII of the Mexican Constitution: "Foreigners may not in any way participate in the political affairs of the country." For the record, I had no objections to any of the terms or conditions placed on me when working in Mexico - it's their country, and it's the right and responsibility of the Mexican people to determine their laws as they see fit - yet somehow it's some terrible human rights violation if we do the same?

Tony, you are preaching to the choir! I get it! And I applaud your family for doing it the right way. They did everything right, as it should be done. Congratulations!
I have NEVER advocated for illegal immigration, quite the opposite. It should be done the right way, exactly how your family did it. But that doesn't mean I have to project hatred on those who have not done it exactly like your family has done it.
I don't see anything wrong with trying to understand WHY people do the things they do (the empathy part) even if it is against the rules. I drive downtown San Diego and see the hordes of homeless people. Do I stop and give every one of them a 20 dollar bill? Absolutely not. Do I advocate throwing them all in jail because they too are breaking the law? Absolutely not. I empathize with their plight and desperately wish we had a solution for the problem, but I can see and feel their plight. That is the empathy part. Empathy is simply the art of seeing a person's situation through their eyes, and not just mine.
But I can't let some of your misguided statements go without comment. Here are some facts of what illegal immigrants are NOT entitled to (contrary to popular belief):
Section-8 housing
SNAP
Food Stamps
Federally funded cash allowances
Social Security
SSI
The ONLY thing that illegal immigrants ARE entitled to is emergency room access. Hospitals are not suppose to turn anyone away regardless of their ability to pay. Does even that privilege get abused, absolutely. No doubt some illegal immigrants take their kids to the ER just because they have the sniffles, but emergency care is the ONLY thing that immigrants are entitled to. (some states may have more lenient laws but we are talking federal here).
If you choose to believe the politicians and professional liars (actually one in the same) or your favorite podcaster or influencer then that is your prerogative, but I challenge you to show me one federal document that says immigrants are entitled (not just an accusation) to anything other than emergency services.
But in addition to the very necessary and important physical labor that a lot of illegal immigrants perform we should not forget the significant amount of dollars that they contribute in taxes. That's right, "contribute", not just pay. Illegal immigrants have to use phoney Social Security numbers to get hired. Taxes are withheld from their paychecks. However, because they are here illegally they cannot file a tax return and get a refund. They FORFEIT the taxes that were taken out of their paychecks, hence, the "contribute" comment. In fact, undocumented immigrants paid nearly $97 BILLION in federal, state and local taxes in 2022, according to a July 2024 report by the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP), which used data on taxpayers with ITINs to estimate tax revenue.
In a perfect world every person entering the U.S., for any purpose, should use the readily available
procedures for entering legally. And in a perfect world every married couple should have 2.5 to 3.5 children, go to church, and never get divorced! But this isn't a perfect world, and it never will be. But you know what makes this imperfect world even more imperfect? Unmitigated hatred and violence against other people just because they are not like you and don't share your same morals and values. And the root cause of that is very simple - a lack of empathy!
The immigration policies of this country are a shit-show and need some serious overhauling, but that doesn't mean we should approach the problem from a perspective of hatred. We can do it humanely, and in then end we can stand up and say that we not only did it, but did it with good Christian values. You don't need to love illegal immigrants, but you would be remiss if you didn't at least try to understand them.

Why do immigrants have to obey the laws if the President doesn't have to. 34 time convicted felon. Just saying

The current population of the world is a little over 8 billion.
I might expect at least 5 billion of those folks would rather be in the U.S. than where they live.
We certainly can't take them all.....

Don’t you think that corporate America is who advocated for illegal immigrates to perform the labor that Americans did not want to do or would not do for wages they wanted to pay. How do you think we built the railroad infrastructure. Maybe cheap Chinese labor. Go to central California and take a close look at who the corporate farm and agriculture sector hires to work the fields. If you have some free time I’m sure you can find some work there, but probably would not last too long.
When I was in HS in Buena Park making $1.25 an hour, a friend told me that “we can make 3 X that picking strawberries in the fields off Lincoln Ave. The following weekend we set out to pick strawberries with the little old Japanese ladies. My buddy lasted about 4 hours gave me his boxes and quit, I stayed for the rest of the day. Turned in my boxes and his and made $12. Never went back.
There are plenty of reasons why immigrants are working the fields.

a lot of people are NEEDED to fill lots of jobs.
but to say they all pay taxes? you know jack shit
they don't. i know a few that think they would like to pay taxes and we tell them to quit being stupid... but the majority do not in the home health care field and the people paying it.. would rather have it that way...its about 25-30 percent cheaper. paying cash.
these are good caring people that are doing good stuff
there are others that do other types of jobs that are needed also...
that is all fine
most are not paying taxes.
i have a solution.... but even then, watching a few i know, get fucked around by lawyers trying to get them the work permits is a fucking racket.
my solution to the taxes? 15 percent on all money sent out of country.... if they file tax returns they can get credit for these payments on their tax returns... but if they do not file? 15percent could easily tax care of all border security and and immigration costs
THE NY MAYOR.... a few years ago said they were going to need about 5billion dollars extra for for all the new immigrants in the city, THAT was just one city
sooo the math is not working.
MS13 and Tren de Aragua,,, just leave them as is?

Why should immigrants obey all laws if every single person here thinks they can pick and choose which laws to obey?
I can promise you there isn’t a single person on this blog who “obeys every single law.”

Undocumented immigrants do the work no else wants to do at the prices and under the terms no one else wants. It’s really as simple as that.
If nothing else I think everyone can agree on this.
Regardless of how you think they should be treated that’s reality. It ain’t like fruit is gonna get picked by documented workers for the same price.
Nor is bringing unskilled manufacturing jobs back to the US gonna make America great again. That’s just stupid talk.
Or producing AI chips here with a domestic workforce that is close to dead fucking last in math and science.
|
|
|
^ exactly
|
|
|
I have a business of my own. I am sure the people I use are undocumented as is prevalent in my industry. Guess what? You ain’t gonna find blacks, whites or Asians doing this shit for their pricing. My guy does an amazing job and I easily pay double what everyone else pays their equivalent.
And even at that rate no way I am gonna find a black, white or Asian person to do the job.
Supply and fucking demand.
And if the jobs we lost here went to a cheaper source then it ain’t fucking rocket science to think that’s the market price for that labor and skill.
As someone once told me…the market doesn’t care about your cost basis. Apple doesn’t build iPhones here because no one is gonna pay 3k to have an unskilled American assembly their phone when a cheap laborer in China can do it for 25% of the rate. The market (iPhone buyer) doesn’t care about your (labor) cost.

that is great to find someone like that... that will surely be appreciative and loyal
i am all for it
those aren't the people that are the problem... the ones that are working
but that is NOT where the problems are...
its the shit that comes with it... the gangs, the people from china, middle east.... finding their way up thru mexico and are in the got a ways....
this is what the DEM mayor of NY said awhile back -
New York City Mayor Eric Adams stated that the current migrant influx could cost the city up to $12 billion over the next three years, with projections showing the city could exceed $5 billion in just two years. This includes expenses for housing, food, and other services. The city has already spent $4.88 billion through fiscal years 2023 and 2024.
Key Points:
Cost Projections:
The city estimates that the migrant crisis could cost over $12 billion by 2025, with potential spending exceeding $5 billion in the next two years.
Current Spending:
New York City has already spent $4.88 billion on migrant services in the past two fiscal years.
Factors Contributing to Costs:
The costs are attributed to providing housing, food, and other services to tens of thousands of asylum seekers and other migrants.
NYC's Financial Strain:
The city has been struggling to manage the crisis, leading to calls for more financial support from state and federal governments.
Call for Action:
Mayor Adams has called for federal support, including declarations of emergency and aid, to help alleviate the burden on the city.

Legitimate. But also if you are dumb enough to offer yourself as a sanctuary state then the non-sanctuary states are gonna fill you up with theirs. Witness TX and FL doing this. NY was an easy target.

Marissa, I see you keep referring to "undocumented immigrants", there is no such legal term. This correct legal term is ILLEGAL ALIEN, an "alien" defined per 8 USC 1101 and "illegal" per 8 USC 1325, which defines illegal entry into this country. 8 USC 1182 defines inadmissible aliens, 8 USC 1227 defines deportable aliens, and despite all the whining about "due process" by the usual suspects, the only "burden of proof" needed to remove deportable aliens doesn't require a hearing or jury trial or any type of criminal conviction, it is merely "clear and convincing evidence" per 8 CFR 1240.8(a). And no, these aren't laws that Trump invented yesterday, in fact they have been on the books for a long time ago. Both Bush I/II. Clinton and Obama administrations regularly deported aliens per the applicable sections of 8 USC 1227 without any yelling and screaming from the Democrats. The Biden administration unilaterally chose NOT to enforce such laws while enabling mass lawbreaking, the spin machine now chooses to scream bloody murder when Trump resumes enforcement of such laws, which should have never stopped in the first place. Funny thing about all of this is that I have never been a Republican and in fact I never voted for Trump in the last 3 elections but I find myself having to defend him on this issue because the accusations being made by the TDS-afflicted hard left are ludicrous. They obviously have their desired affect on people who function on emotions but we have laws in place for a reason.

Why do you feel immigrants need to obey “ALL laws” when you don’t?
|
|
|
Laws exist. Follow them. This shit ain’t whataboutism and grading on a curve.
|
|
|
Maybe you should follow them. Unless you’re special.
|
|

Your rationale is whack. Of course I follow the laws.
Whether someone else follows the laws is irrelevant to whether I should follow them. That’s the breakdown in your argument.

Just because people who are CITIZENS and LEGAL RESIDENTS of the United States of America are immigrants or descendants of immigrants, it does NOT mean that everyone who feels like pouring in here from every country around the world.
We have laws. We have an immigration process that provides for allowing controlled immigration. But why would we have that? If people are poor or uneducated, just let them ALL in here! Why not, isn't it the right thing to do?
Well.
We have a culture.
We have an economy.
We have borders and sovereignty.
Controlled immigration lets a limited number of people in each year, so their "culture" doesn't overwhelm the culture we already have an like. Let in regulated numbers, allow them to assimilate, and they become more aligned with the culture our country already has. Not that it is better, but is is 100% more comfortable and successful than where they are coming from. If it wasn't, they wouldn't be coming.
The same applies economically. Dumping 20 million undocumented and illegal immigrants in America all at once shocks our systems -- our labor force, our healthcare system, our schools, our police, and our court systems. Controlled immigration allows for teach of those systems to face the necessary growth in a controlled manner, one that can but built as needed, and funding can be sourced.
Immigration was designed by the Democrats was to "shock and overwhelm" the system.
Communists and socialists like Cloward and Piven advocated for a strategy that "...aims to utilize "militant anti poverty groups" to facilitate a "political crisis" by overloading the welfare system via an increase in welfare claims, forcing the creation of a system of guaranteed minimum income and "redistributing income through the federal government".
Socialism. That's what it was all about. The immigrants were just pawns used by the Democrats to achieve their end goals. They should all be jailed.
