How come I can listen to opening songs for “Friends” or “How I Met Your Mother” every time, but others like “Bosch” just bug the shit out of me and I can’t skip fast enough.

This keeps me awake at night 🤷🏻‍♂️

I think there are four categories here
  1. Shows that took an existing hit song for their theme
    • REM's "Stand" used in the Chris Elliot show Get A Life
    • Billy Joel's "My Life" used in It's A Living (they actually had an impersonator re-record the song to save having to pay Billy extra money)
    • Joe Cocker's version of The Beatles "With a Little Help from My Friends" on The Wonder Years
  2. Songs by established artists made specifically for the show
    • The Rembrandt's "I'll Be There For You" on a show called Friends
    • They Might Be Giants "Boss Of Me" written for Malcolm In The Middle
  3. Songs written for a show using studio musicians and/or cast members that tell the plot of the show
    • Gilligan's Island
    • Cheers
    • WKRP In Cincinnati
    • Dukes of Hazard (I know Waylon Jennings was an established artist, but he was the narrator of the show, so this is best category)
  4. Instrumentals
    • Sanford and Son
    • Barney Miller
These examples are off the top of my head and not necessarily the best in each category.

Pretty sure it was Bosom Buddies (starring a young Tom Hanks) that used 'My Life' (not correcting to be an ass- just in case anyone wants to look it up and get confused).
