Cinco de Mayo is an annual celebration held on May 5 to celebrate Mexico's victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862, led by General Ignacio Zaragoza.

It used to be just an excuse to drink.

I'm usually in mexico around the sixteenth of September.
That is the Independence day and it is celebrated, but not in a grand manner.

I'm not in Mexico in May usually, but the few times I was. Cinco De Mayo is just another day.

I should add the folks I hang around with are a bunch of farmers.

I have no idea what goes on in any of the big cities for independence day
