Never thought it could happen.

Mummy I knew it was going to happen! Ticking time bomb of stupid open space rules and restrictions on brush clearance.

The non-old folks haven't been around long enough to think:
How many times has this happened now?
Bigger, more expensive and more incompetence are the only new stats.
It'll all be forgotten in a month or two.

Fires happen every year, just not the same area.
Some are the result of arson, starting a campfire that gets away, frying a turkey, playing with illegal fireworks. There were days of high winds, which causes phase-to-phase arcing. No reports of downed high voltage lines.

Unfortunately more to come. Baptism of fire as foretold in the Bible.
What's next a massive earthquake?

I hope people are getting the help they need. That being said, I’m a power lineman. Ive worked in wind storms 2010-11 winter no fire. Ive worked NorCal Shasta car fire storm.
If you have both together. No fukn way can u protect homes and properties. This was an event that was an act of god. California has a domino effect of all services and utility that are old and out dated. Every one needs to start to safe guard themselves. I was out of power for 4 days. I have learned that where I live by foothills it’s happened before. Luckily I had a generator. This last fire and wind storm. I purchased a water pump to siphon water out of my pool. To help protect my house.
So we can not play the victim, u have rely on what you can do for yourself.

Very well said Tommy
I'm of the opinion that we should invest in firefighter hoses
And learn how to connect them to hydrants ourselves
And not wait for FDs to come save us
