I've been punked by LA County.
The Kennith Fire is out in Calabasas. The evacuation order for those people went out to everybody in LA County and plenty of people in Orange County.
I love to hear this phrase: Don't do things that you shouldn't.
I hope that nobody around here is doing things that they shouldn't.

I got the alert on my phone so I grabbed my bags, rounded up the dogs and put a towel over my parrot's cage. The parrot protested, squawking at me in Korean. The dog's just looked at me, like, Mr. Fish has finally lost it.
I loaded up the car with Kirkland water bottles from Costco, kibble, some of them emergency rations I bought on line, some photos from the mantle.
I walked back in the house for the dogs and said in Chinese, "C'mon boys. We gotta go."
They didn't look interested at all. I put the parrot in the car and he squawked in the only English he knows, "Fuck you I no go."
Alright. I have an emergency evacuation order and I am the human goddamit in charge of getting you animals to safety.
10 minutes later I get another alert: "Disregard..."
So, this alert went out to nearly everyone in LA County with a cell phone. Guessing 10 million people got it. If that alert was true, how the hell would this fucked up county get 10 million people on the roads and highways out of there?
Would Fast Track wave Fast Lane tolls? Who's gonna watch my house if looters come there? What if this was an earth quake warning? 10 million people trying to flee LA County at the same time would be a mess.
These clowns in LA city and county government fuck up everything they try to control.
Let's hope The Big One doesn't hit before these bureaucrats are voted out in disgrace in the next election.

That was crazy, I went outside right away, no smoke, but heard sirens & then got the other notification of it being a mistake... phewww !

I was waken up by the second alert at 4 am in the morning.
I thought this time should be true, no more rehearsals.
Maybe not…
I’m still waiting for the “ disregard alert” message before I rush out the door.
Stay calm and be safe everyone.

I was outside walking to get food when I got the alert and I'm thinking "thats strange I dont see anything... maybe they can predict the future" ....sure enough as I'm walking back to my hotel I get the false alarm alert".. major sigh of relief because I did not have my car and would have been running for my life hahaha
-Take everything that you cannot replace (photos, obituaries, important documents and files, books, paintings) and load them up into a bag, box or rolling cart *link below*...
-Pack food and water for yourself, littles and pets. I also have this bucket of emergency food from amazon that lasts up to 25 years. *link below but they have soooo many other brands*
-Sign up to get alerts and make sure that you keep an eye on the fires, areas (new and old), and containment.
-Make sure that you are aware of the specifications of any fireproof safes. Some will actually burn over a certain temperature or after a certain period of time.
-Please recheck your fire insurance!!!
-and mostly keep everything ready to go so that way if you are told to evacuate, it doesnt feel so overwhelming or last minute

The Watch Duty App (or watchduty.org) has reliable information about the fires and where/when real evacuations are indicated. It's much calmer than relying on television, twitter and local government, which offer fear porn and misinformation

They cant seem to get the cerfew right either, 6am to 6pm, WHAT? Wait no 6PM to 6AM, and the next message is back to 6AM to 6PM again. Brains and bodies are fried I'm sure, have to cut them slack with all this happening at once. Grateful for everything and anything they are doing for us.

They can't clear brush to prevent these massive fires.
When the fires start, they can't get water in the hydrants.
When homes are destroyed, they can't help the people whose lives they have destroyed.
Republicans may not the solution to all of these problems...but it is 100% certain that Democrats are the cause of all of them.

Fire Insurance
If you have fire insurance (because it was mentioned above) make sure you increase the rider for Code Upgrade. If you have a partial fire that does not destroy everything to the ground this part of the policy will kick in. If enough of the house is damaged then the building department might make you bring the whole structure up to today's codes because of the amount of damage to the area of the house were the fire was.
I had a client with 50% of the house still there and the walls still standing (the fire was only at the house). The building department required them to bring the structure up today's seismic code. This also applied to the energy code, so all the windows, insulation, etc had to be brought up to today's code. For the parts of the building that only had smoke damage, only the smoke damage was covered. Having to replace the windows, upgrade the lateral, systems, etc were not covered in their overall policy but partially covered with the code upgrade rider which was 10%. Even though they had 550,000 for their policy this did not cover all the code upgrades as they only had 55,000 towards code upgrades on the part of the with only smoke damage. Even though the cost of the rebuild was 350,000, they still had to pay 75,000 out of their pocket that was code upgrade costs that were over 50,000. After I found that up I increased my rider to 50% which only cost me an additional 80 per year for the additional protection. Yes if the house is completely gone then everything would be covered up to your policy limit.
Also do not accept their first offer as it will be a low ball figure. Your agent does not work for the insurance company but are an authorized agent. Your agent has no control over the adjuster who does work for the company. Their job is to pay as little as possible.

@YellowB52
It's ok every once in a while to just say I hope everyone stays safe, instead of making everything political.
Stay safe out there people. Thinking of you all.

I like the woman complaining in Screwsum's face.
Ah, haven't figured out that the Gov is not here to help you.

I use watch duty so I can know what fires my firefighting friends are assigned to. It has current and often updated info about most all calif fires.
Very helpful info about evacs and evac centers is also posted in the app. Along with where you can take your animals, and who to contact for help or more info.
