Hopefully, the winds are down enough for the air support to drop water.
I feel so sad for all those people that have to evacuate.

I’m with family in OC, but there’s a fire 8 minutes from my house at Runyon Canyon. Although I doubt it will reach my house, I called my neighbor to tell him to evacuate his family because he may be required to do so anyway.
Error on the side of safety. Material possessions can be replaced.
Hopefully things die down soon.

This fire storm is kickin ass and taking no prisoners.
It will be a long time before things get back to where they were.
I imagine under the circumstances, a lot of the residences that went up in flames.
Had no fire insurance. 🔥

Wear safety masks when out and about. You might not live in the area affected but some of these burning homes and cars are releasing toxins in the air. If you have air purifier at home now would be the time to use it. Also drink extra water since the air will be dry for the next couple of days.

I hope everyone stays safe and is with loved ones. This is horrible.
I’m curious on how or who started it. Power line? Arsonist? Kids fucking around? (Happened in Oregon with 2 kids playing around)
Either way this is devastating

Backyard fire that spread. It was SUPER windy yesterday. Air support grounded.
They just let it burn.

California wildfire forecast: LA under critical fire risk with gusty winds forecast.
Breezy, with a northeast wind 10 to 20 mph becoming west southwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.
Not good

These fires are nutz. Hope everyone is staying safe!

The mayor should probably not cut 17 million to the fire budget. It's difficult to check fire hydrants on a regular basis when you don't have the manpower. I guess this is all just a "learning experience" for her.

Absolutely insane. Be safe my LA friends. Hurts my heart to see so much devastation and the reactions from people who have lost everything... and it ain't over.
|
|

This is why they used to do control burns up until 10 -15 years ago - so fires wouldn't burn as hot or have as much fuel. Unfortunately those stopped when budgets got cut and climate hysteria took over.
But if you're going to live in a canyon area you should know before you move in that there's a chance it'll go up in flames. My house is in carbon canyon. The canyon hasn't burned in 100 years. I knew going in that there was a chance a fire could happen and if it did there was so much fuel the whole canyon would burn including my house.
It's a calculated risk. I've already told the local fire marshal if there was a fire don't worry about my house I'll deal with it.

Since I live in a fire zone in the Hollywood Hills, we are required to clear dry brush and trim trees close to structures every year or we'll be fined by the fire department.
I live close to Runyon Canyon (Sunset fire), so I was notified yesterday to be ready to evacuate. Thankfully it didn't get close enough for that to happen.

Did anyone see the Shock in Mayor Bass ? So much so she was speechless. Couldn't answer a single question.

is the area still in the danger zone?

@lapierre. Thanks.
Hollywood Hills is no longer at risk unless something new flares up.

Stay safe, everyone.

@AF, in response to: "Did anyone see the Shock in Mayor Bass ? So much so she was speechless. Couldn't answer a single question."
That's not because of the shock, it's because she is stupid an inept and still can't fathom how liberal policies and the worship at the altar of environmentalism don't actually make life better for the citizens, is destroys them!

Seems like a massive bomb with the before and after pictures and videos.
The new LA fire chief is focused on the wrong priorities.

The looting is absolutely disgusting !!
Can you imagine going to what is left of your home and belongings only to find some degenerate scum bag going through the rubble to take anything of value, SMDFH
& The insurance scammers OMG!!!
People are going through enough, they gotta be robbed of anything they believe in, how desperately sad!!
I have a large house that I can help with some that are displaced, warm place and food, shower & some peace of mind to figure out what to do next

This link actually has hotels info who are helping with accommodation for folks in need. https://www.discoverlosangeles.com/info

The emergency alert system is sending false alerts to evacuate (I received false alerts last night and this morning). Don’t ignore the alerts. Check to make sure you’re either safe or in harm’s way.
The linked app is supposed to be very good, but I think the map (second link) may have even more updated information on the locations of the fires.
If you receive an alert and you’ve checked that a fire is starting to get close to your home, you should start planning to stay with family or friends until the risk subsides.
The Sunset fire was around 3.5 miles from my house and I received legitimate warnings to be ready to evacuate. That fire is 100% contained now, but just know that the fires can be relatively close and you are still not required to evacuate but it may still be prudent to evacuate anyway especially if you notice the fires are moving quickly. Err on the side of caution.

Here's a much more detailed map that shows all of the active fires.

Pacific Palisades reservoir was offline and empty when firestorm exploded.
The Santa Ynez Reservoir had been closed for repairs to its cover, leaving a 117 million gallon water storage complex empty in the heart of the Palisades.
Everything contributes to a disaster.

Maybe we can ask Ukraine for some of that money
|
|
|
We didn't send Ukraine money, just old gear.
|
|
|
Out of a U.S. commitment of $175 billion to Ukraine I imagine there was a bunch of cash for different items. Even though it was designated for some kind of material or weapons, it may not have been spent on those items.
Appropriations, don't always go in the right direction.

Can we wait to make it about politics until the fires are out. I know some of you are addicted to starting fights over politics, but a little self-restraint can be a good thing.
|
|
|
Scantron/spanner simmer down
I NEVER talk about politics so that statement doesn't include me. However I'm simply just highlighting that people should understand where their money is going to so that we can invest in future acts of prevention instead of stadiums and dick pills.
Anywho. There is a guy on Instagram named @moseswestfoundation and he makes water generators that used the air to create clean filtered water. Pretty amazing stuff we should look into having something like that for high drought areas.
Make sure that you take video and pictures of everything that you may not be able to take and always keep gas in your car!!! Nothing worse than needing to evacuate and not being able to stop and get gas
|
|
|
He also has a few videos and photos on there explaining how to make one and explaining the materials that he used... so if any engineers are interested in that kind of technology take a look (may have to scroll a bit)

It’s pretty obvious who is trying to bring politics into this tragedy.

If anyone is stressing out due to the fires, remember you can always call warmlines to speak with a peer counselor, what is going on has a lot of people stressed out and it’s okay to ask for help.

It’s so heart ❤️ warming to see the community come together to help each other

Disgusting seeing all the trolls comments all over social media saying the rich folks at Pacific Palisades deserved it, or black evacuatees of Altadena are "looting" their own houses. These asshats are the lowest common denominator.
