I just had the worst week, so i can empathize with you.
I was in a hit and run last week, car at a stoplight, shifted into reverse and wrecked my front end.
Bags inflated and made my car immobilized. Then after dude left, some guys who i thought were angels scammed me in a tow and store scam. I thought for a second my car was stolen, when i didnt know where it was for a few days.. When I found it, the yard wanted 5.7 k for tow and storage..
I was blown away.. after a little negotiating i was able to get it out for 3k.. but still got ripped off because I called the tow comission they said i should have only been charged $500. I just wanted to get if away from this shop run by Nigerians..
Anyways now i need my car fixed, sitting in the driveway. And im carless for at least 3 weeks ill assume plus the first estimate came in at 6.5 k.. who know airbags were so much
so if anyone knows a good low cost bodyshop.. ill greatly appreciate it
sorry didnt mean to take too much attention from this blog

You are clearly self aware, and clearly identifying the problem. Those are the “first steps” to solving a problem that most never manage to complete at all, much less solve their actual issues.
I don’t put fairy dust on anything: LA is an expensive city and a hard city to survive in—but that can be said of most major urban areas. Major cities hold most of the opportunities, so driven, motivated people gravitate to cites, and life in a city is highly competitive as a result.
The basics still apply: build a support network of people you can develop trust with. Keep your dreams and expectations high, but recognize that it is doubly hard to have your own private apartment as a starting place. Then adding in the high cost of a vehicle,in a city among the highest insurance rates in the nation.
And absolutely do not drive without insurance.
There are life management choices that most people make without being concerned about it. I know CEOs and well known producers who have told me their stories of living in their car the first year or two in LA. Not saying that’s right for you, but the weather in SoCal makes this doable, whereas not even feasible in the harsh winters of New York City.
What are your 5 year goals? Making choices to succeed with a 5 year goal is more important than a temporary luxury. The more astute entrepreneurs I know find ways to combine their business goals with the base living needs—live/work space, business vehicle instead of personal car, etc.

Decisions & choices are difficult when faced.
You can live in your car (Albeit with great discomfort & inconvenience)
but you can't drive your house.

So take a page from Sonya7's story. Get yourself a small SUV that has a trailer hitch, get a UHaul trailer for $19 a day and join a local Planet Fitness for $15 a month and since they are open 24/7 you can park in their lot without being hassled and use their bathroom and shower facilities.
That can give you a head start on saving up for the costs associated with getting your own place.

Lets play a game of "What If"... Say you were presented with $3,000 which I highly doubt you'll see that from anybody on this website. Just stating the facts, don't any of you guys get your panties in a wad.
You say you'd struggle with the decision of either choosing a vehicle or an apartment, right?
Depending on your credit, you can take a couple thousand of that and use it as a down payment on a somewhat decent car, or purchase a little beater just to have temporarily to get around town until you save up for something better. It probably won't be pretty or ideal, but it's certainly better than no transportation at all.
Than take the remaining thousand and rent a room in someone's house or apartment. I'm sure there are countless ads for people looking for a roommate in LA, or even OC. It'll be difficult doing what you've been doing lately for income, but that's easy to solve by getting a cheap hotel room a couple times during the week & just book your days completely up to make it worth your while. Maybe you'll get lucky and find a roommate that's ok with it, but I highly doubt it.
Hope my 2⍧ helps you with making the best decision that best suits your wants & needs. Much luck to you dear!
