I'll be there in March for much less time. Gonna keep going west.

In Pattaya - I'm definitely going to soi 6 and the jomtien area, walking street, lk metro and will definitely take a stroll down beach road - If for nothing else just to check them out.
But the girls look awesome!
Bangkok I'm planning on going to Nana plaza and soi 23. But the city's huge!
In Phuket there's Bangla road.
Chiang Mai is the wild card although I hear the night life is around soi ruh kroh.
But since I'm not 16 anymore and can't fuck all day every day and don't drink much so I really want to see the temples, visit several islands and actually see Thailand.
I've been thinking that maybe I'll look for a legit guide in each city - not a free lancer or bar girl although they'd probably know the cities better than anyone. Just don't need the complications.
Not really worried about lady boys, if I can't tell I'll just ask - lady or lady boy?

It's my first time in Thailand so any suggestions of what and where to go are appreciated.

Thailand is among my favorite countries in the world.
I have not gone there for sex.
Southern Thailand is much more focused on foreigners and tourism, while Northern Thailand is much more traditional and often quite religious and spiritual. People in Chiang Mai, at least when I visited, spoke almost no English, but all were generous enough to find ways for me to understand. I went on a guided trek in the ancient mahogany forests, including a raft trip on a raft that we built, and on trails on the back of an elephant.
It’s also amazing to travel by boat on the river Kwai, which is a major commerce route for people on small boats. They will come up next to you to sell food, fruits and flowers. You can rent a boat for this purpose, or hire one with a driver.
I was fortunate to meet a very kind, and quite beautiful tour guide in Bangkok, who introduced me to monks, whom I then befriended. I visited the personal quarters in the monastery.
My favorite, however, was renting a tiny motorcycle and traveling to the local mountains outside of Chiang Mai. I could read none of the road signs. However, it was during the Spring festival of Song Kran, when the Buddhists wash the Buddha statues. It is celebrated as a regional water game. The lovely Thai girls would walk up behind me, and pour a dish of water over my head, both as a sacred gesture and as a laugh. On the motorbike, the kids doused me with water from supersoaker squirt guns.
The food is amazing. Go to night markets to eat and point to anything that looks interesting and eat it. You may never learn what it was, but you’ll be happy that you had the experience.

^^ Not really going there for the sex, although Thai women are gorgeous!, but because the country looks amazing and pictures I've seen in and around Phuket and Hua Hin make it look awesome.
That being said if I see a lady that interests me and is also interested in me, than I have no problem engaging her for the night but if not ... no worries.
Too, the night spots like soi 6, walking street, nana plaza etc just look crazy AF!!! So I'd like to see the craziness for myself. I'm not really a strip club kinda guy so the go go places are out and I'm not a big drinker either but don't have a problem buying a 'lady drink' for an attractive woman who catches my eye and maybe even paying her 'bar fine'.
I've heard about the Mahogany forest and it's on my to do list. As are several of the islands around Pattaya, all of which I've heard have hotels on them so if I choose can stay a day or 2.
I'm trying to keep my itinerary very loose so if I'm having a great time and there are places I want to but haven't seen yet in the area, I have no problem staying for another couple of days before moving to another city.
I'm also a practicing Tibetan Buddhist so REALLY want to see the temples and pay my respects.
I plan on going to the night markets in all the cities and can't wait to try the local cuisine. Are there any that aren't so touristy?
I'd be really interested in hearing how and where you met your guide and what they're daily rate was. Since I'm flying into Bangkok I'll be staying there for about 4 days and a guide/interpreter would be awesome, especially in Chiang Mai, as long as they fit in with my budget. And I do understand that I'd be responsible for their room and board.
if we work well together and they're willing to stick with me I'd be willing to keep them for the entire trip.
Question: I'll be there for Chinese new year. I understand it's tradition to hand out red envelopes with cash in them as gifts. I was planning on buying 100 - 150 envelopes and putting anywhere from 20 - a couple w/ 500 &1000 tai baht in them and letting people who catch my interest pick one.
Or will that just come off as just being another asshole American lauding 'his wealth' over us.
That's the last thing I'd want them to think.

Should have said - envelopes w/ 20, 50 and a 100 baht and a couple w/ 500 and a 1000 baht.
Just clearing it up.

I googled "Americans giving red envelopes in Thailand new year" and read that it's not common there.

Omfg I just got half a chub reminiscing ahhhh to be a 18 year old military man In Thailand during the 90's was amazing. Tupelo, MS is nothing like Thailand but this little city has some freaky ass ebony woman that love to party.

|
|
I imagine it's not done by most Americans. We can be cheap bastards!
I'll be doing it anyway. If nothing else it may brighten up someone's evening.
And it's not like it's a lot of money - 1 thai baht = $0.03 so 100 baht is only $3.00.
Will definitely cost me less than $100 which is a cheap price to make a girl smile.
Thanks for the link. Guess I'll have to change the amounts to 28, 58, 108, 508 and 1008.

Thailand has a very friendly culture and I'm sure those red envelopes will be accepted with much glee, especially in that party atmosphere.
You could whip them out if the ladies get a bit too grabby. Give them something else to put their hands on in a fun, respectful way.
Those things aren't supposed to be opened in the presence of the giver.

Sukhumvit Road Is the road between Nana Plaza and Soi Cowboy in Bangkok.
That’s the area to stay. The distance between the two is 2 kilometers
There are shopping plazas, coffee shops, restaurants and hotels of all levels including a Hyatt.
On this road is also famous Thermae Cafe.
This area is literally open 24 hours.

|
|
In Bangkok I'm staying at a hotel off sukhumvit rd on sukhumvit 10 alley.
I's about halfway between nana and soi cowboy and about a half mile south.
Wanted to be close enough to get there but far enough away to get out of the craziness.
Hotel looks awesome especially for $55/night. I'm on the 12th floor w/ a balcony overlooking the pool w/ a king size bed! The rooms have just been remodeled.
Prices are just crazy.

Check out smooci for take out if you get sick of the bar scene.

If you get tired of the bangkok scene or the whole Thailand thing, then fly over to Singapore from Bangkok. Round trip is less than 200 dollars and its 2:30 hrs:mins away.
A bit more sophisticated scene.
Beautiful city amazing food

I'm really not planning on spending a lot of time in the bar scene even though I'm just a 7 minute walk from Thermae, 15 minutes from nana and soi cowboy. About 18 minutes from soi 6, lk metro etc and 5 minutes from Bangla rd in Phuket.
I'm definitely want to go and see them and check them out and will hopefully spend some time with some of the women but the trip isn't revolving around that.
Although I'm thinking it's almost impossible not to especially in Pattaya.
Mostly I want to check out the country, the culture and see what it has to offer.
I'm also not a big drinker and can only drink beer but I'm partial to stouts, dark ales and porters all of which are in short supply in Thailand although I did see where a couple of higher end bars carried duval.
Thanks for the link! I'll check them out and see what they have to offer!
Damn!!! Didn't even think about going to Singapore!
Think I might have to add some time to my trip especially since it's so cheap and close!
Luckily it's still slow so can add a week or 2 and it won't hurt that much.
