Mail alert but no mail

Several times over the past few week, the Mail icon has been Red when I log on, but when I go to the tab there is no mail. Any insight as to why this may be happening? Or just a random glitch now and then?

Alice and June are correct.

Click on Mail and look for the Broadcast folder on the left that will be red if there are unread items. Sometimes broadcast messages are set to expire after a few days or a week, or on rare occasions set to expire as soon as you open it, so it could appear red but by the time you click on the folder, the item will have "disappeared".

Also:
If you receive a follow up or a reply to mail you previously moved to a folder in your inbox list (below the broadcast folder), the folder where that original mail resides will indicate the new mail is there.

Hope that reads clearly.

Thanks everyone. I do check created folders and broadcast folders but there is nothing there. However it was also pointed out to me that it was likely an expired broadcast.

Thanks again.
