One of the few books I have ever read twice in a row was The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto by Mitch Albom -

I am on my second pass of Marcus Aurelius' Meditations. His insight into the transient nature of life and the importance of accepting what we cannot control is incredible. A must read.

The Bible written by Jesus, I think
Boring mostly but got lots of sex and violence

Also recommend Kama Sutra, writing is OK but illustrations were done by acrobats
And, they are excellent

Non-Fiction:

Running with Scissors: A Memoir
By Augusten Burroughs
(movie watered-down)
Running with Scissors is the true story of a boy whose mother (a poet with delusions of Anne Sexton) gave him away to be raised by her psychiatrist, a dead-ringer for Santa and a lunatic in the bargain. Suddenly, at age 12, Augusten Burroughs found himself living in a dilapidated Victorian in perfect squalor.

My Lobotomy: A Memoir
By Howard Dully
In this heartfelt memoir from one of the youngest recipients of the transorbital lobotamy, Howard Dully shares the story of a painfully dysfunctional childhood, a misspent youth, his struggle to claim the life that was taken from him, and his redemption.

My Dog Tulip
By J. R. Ackerley
(haven't seen the Movie)
The distinguished British man of letters J. R. Ackerley hardly thought of himself as a dog lover when, well into middle age, he came into possession of a German Shepherd. To his surprise, she turned out to be the love of his life, the ideal friend he had been searching for in vain for years. My Dog Tulip is a bittersweet retrospective account of their sixteen-year companionship, as well as a profound and subtle meditation on the strangeness that lies at the heart of all relationships.

Born Free: A Lioness of Two Worlds
By Joy Adamson
Joy Adamson's story of a lion cub in transition between the captivity in which she is raised and the fearsome wild to which she is returned captures the abilities of both humans and animals to cross the seemingly unbridgeable gap between their radically different worlds. Especially now, at a time when the sanctity of the wild and its inhabitants is increasingly threatened by human development and natural disaster, Adamson's remarkable tale is an idyll, and a model, to return to again and again.

Fiction:

Life of Pi: A Novel (movie enjoyable)
By Yann Martel
After the sinking of a cargo ship, a solitary lifeboat remains bobbing on the wild blue Pacific. The only survivors from the wreck are a sixteen-year-old boy named Pi, a hyena, a wounded zebra, an orangutanand a 450-pound Royal Bengal tiger.

Magic Street
By Orson Scott Card
a child who is discovered in abandoned overgrown park, raised by a blunt-speaking single woman, Mack comes and goes from family to family. Mack senses that he is different from most and knows that he has strange powers, he cannot understand how unusual he is until the day he sees, in a thin slice of space, a narrow house. Beyond it is a backyard, and an entryway into an extraordinary world stretching off into an exotic distance of geography, history, and magic.
Inspired by Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream

Under the Dome
By Stephen King
(TV Series, bad)
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - very funny and creative. Light-hearted great time.

Stephen King's Skeleton Crew - great collection of short scary stories. There was another one I have somewhere but I forgot its name. It had The Mist way before it became a movie.
