It depends on the company you buy it from.
I bought a gift card from a source I thought was reliable but was not able to redeem my points.

Anyway, the message reads "servers are experiencing a temporary network error. Please try again in 1 hour".

I had the same issue with a gift card redemption about two weeks ago here on HX (same message). So I called the number on the back of the card and it turns out sombody used the funds associated with the GC. Thank god I saved the receipt, Target 🎯 verified it was fraudulently breached and sent me out a new GC.

i usually get a home depot card. has worked every time. never a problem
