also.... Sadly Baristas receiving tips via Credit card has come to a end with a recent terminal/merchant account switch using
Verifone.
it just takes the total when you swipe, no option to tip, and many reasons for that.
When you swipe it cost the merchant a fee, if it's chip, or if it's scanner, or even manual..
also when leaving a tip, it has to be batched out at the end of the clock work day and then a processing fee, then accounting needs to tie to their computer terminal not sure what P.o.S they are on that needs to report Credit card tips, and tax for employees...
this is probably because of the minimum wage going to $15 hour in Cali, and federal min wage went up.
now onto another rant
having been in the family business my whole life (restaurant)
every year min wage goes up, menu item prices go up.
if you notice It use to cost
10bucks a meal or under in say mid 90s

And usually relative to the min wage for most places.. in CA i can speak of.
like your dennys/ihops/general cafes and such
if min wage goes up and servers receives tips they are usually making more than managers all ready, a great living for a entry level job through school, but many waitress and bartender do forever,
that another aspect of the job market is entry level jobs and how long people stay in them.
when we raise min raise. restaurants 100000% raise there prices so, it really doesn't help the consumer or business owner, maybe certain people receiving min wage pay... cause when menu prices go up, gratuity goes up.. which I never liked myself. as a consumer.
anyhow..some .. restaurants are doing service charges where they charge XyZ on bill and share with the whole house, and even a percent to the owners/shareholders...seen this in . l.a.
consumer science is something I studied in school and use in the real world.
you ever notice how we hardly are given a receipt anymore with out asking?
do you really want to be reminded how much you paid for your Starbucks?
