I worked on a communications chip used in the main rover. It was cool when the probe landed and all the vital signs showed good after high speed entry with a short communication blackout.

The air on Mars is less than 1% as dense as air on Earth, with the density at the surface roughly equivalent to the density at an altitude of about 22 miles (35 km) above Earth. above 10,000 ft. No conventional aircraft could fly on Mars because the Martian atmosphere is too thin
The bad news is that the Martian atmosphere is far more tenuous than that of Earth, with a density 60 times lower. So for a given weight of drone, the rotors must be much more effective at generating the downward thrust.

^^^Thanks for that info. I knew the Martian atmosphere was thin, but this shows just how thin. This was like a helicopter flying at the altitude of an SR-71.
