Most leases have clauses that guests may only reside in the location for a short period of time (say 2 weeks) then they must add themselves to said lease to stay there.
The lease is completely worthless to you, you aren't on it. You are not authorized to be in the unit. You can't get around that.
You made a significant unauthorized change to the unit when you installed that lock. Landlords don't take kindly to that and don't care if you can easily change it.
You have pets which are not allowed (this is likely specified in the lease that Im seriously questioning if you have ever even read or have a copy of....and they don't have to give you one because it isn't legally your lease)
Long story short....you are not going to win this.
I hope the unit is in good shape because if I was the landlord I would not only kick you out but I'd trash your mom's credit and look into potential charges of fraud for being a sole signer on a lease and having no intention to be the tenant.
You got screwed by the person who convinced you to have your mom solely on the lease (if thats how it actually happened).

Call Consumer Affairs, 99% of the folks that work there are against shit like the one you are reporting.

Goddamn, do you not own a fucking mirror?
Your multiple blogs detailing your various 'struggles' are all the result of your fucked up decisions in life.
GET YOUR FUCKING SHIT TOGETHER.

Figure out a time you can be out by and get the landlord agreement. Its a hassle to evict someone.

those poor animals.
last year they had to suffer summer heat with no AC. Now the stress of moving
do "emotional support animals" get their own "emotional support animals"?
|
|

those animals need 'animal protective service'

Wow, you people are fucking vicious.
Never blogging again - you're welcome.

And lachineseguy (thank you for my negative ratings by the way, even though I don't know you...):
One thing I can say for certain is that my pets are well cared for. Anybody who ACTUALLY knows me can attest to this. So don't act like I'm some animal abuser. You know NOTHING about me other than my very lowest points when I'm desperate enough to reach out on Hx for advice or help (and I have to be VERY desperate, for obvious reasons). Then you kick me while I'm down. How dare you? Get a life.
Same goes to Fubar and the rest of you fucking dicks

you dont need to be perfect to have a roof over your head and basic utilities taken care of.

ValleyMiley - looking for good advise on HX is like like asking the retard table in high school their thoughts. You will get comments...but they won't be worth shit.

Don't take it too personal. You know how we are...
As someone with some experience with these cases, you have informal tenancy through verbal agreement with the prior manager. Do you have anything written on the lease saying as much? Do you have any utilities, subscriptions, or anything with a date near move-in to support your tenancy? Since your mom has legal tenancy, landlord can't really kick her out without a 60-day notice as long as you start to comply with the 3-day. Is the lease term up and over with? Are you now month-to-month? How much was the deposit?
Why not negotiate with the new manager and beg to stay for 6 months while you find a new place? Talking and negotiating solves a lot of problems. No one really wants the stress of eviction.
The issue may not be personal but that the landlord wants to raise the rent, perhaps by a lot. Maybe the neighbors are complaining about something else, like how you use the common area, or the company you keep, or any violations of house rules. Who knows?
